Stay Safe Kansas!

I noticed that the storm chasers are out tonight and just checked the weather. This looks awful.

We just had about pea size hail and it was quite windy and heavy rain (mostly at an angle too due to the wind) but luckily that was it. Where we are located at though in the KC metro was just on the line where it could become worse depending on how the storm weakened or strengthened and they had upgraded us to enhanced risk yesterday for the evening although tornado risk was not high. We were under a t-storm warning but my best friend who lives in the next county to the west was under a tornado watch while we were not though we could have easily been. The system was quite a powerful one. We had two rounds one in the morning and one in the evening.

At least right now no fatalities from Andover and only a few injuries but they are doing all that clean up so that could change.

Near El Dorado also had a tornado.

Tornado are some scary things lemmie tell ya.

They are calling the Andover one an EF3, no fatalities at this point and just a few people injured and 2 of them being firefighters during recovery efforts.

This is why tornadoes are scary..this is a photo of a house that is destroyed and a car on top of another car but notice the house across the street, at least from the front of it..it's undamaged. There could still be damage to that house across the street but it sure didn't get destroyed like this one and the house to the right of it you can see in the picture.

The Andover fire chief said the quick warnings were a large reason why. He was quoted saying "It went from a storm to a severe thunderstorm warning to a tornado in just minutes.” They don't know the full amount of damage but around 966 buildings were in the path of it.

In my county we have zoned tornado sirens these days. It means one zone could go off but not another. This is intended to be more accurate in warnings given. I don't know what they have there though.

Glad you and yours were safe!
Thanks for the pics, did you drive there and see that?

Thanks :)

For the pic no it's just from news stories, most of our local news in kc is heavily covering it so there's a lot of photos. Reed Timmer (storm chaser) also has an astonishing video if the tornado when it is touching down and destroying property.

As for driving there no and they don't want you to. They have asked people to not do that, it impedes recovery and clean up efforts, although that is standard to ask that.

It really is amazing that no one died as of right now directly from it.

I think it's just incredible that no one died, and only "minor" injuries.
I asked about the pics because I thought you may live close by.
I think I saw the video you mentioned.
I saw this heart stopping pic right after it was posted that night (among others):

I live in the KC metro west side of it on the KS side. In terms of KS (because KS is decently wide) you could say I live relatively close lol, it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive west to Andover. When you consider the storm system though that's darn close.

It just is amazing, all the pics I saw was this clear as day tornado and it hits you really the power they can have.
