Starwood points and the Swan and Dolphin

Do you have status or just want a feebie upgrade?

I'm sorry, what do you mean by status? Do you mean, am I a member of the Starwood preferred guest club? Yes, I am.

A "feebie" upgrade? Or "freebie"? I always want free upgrades!

There are different levels to the Starwood Preferred Guest Program. There is Preferred, Gold Preferred, and Platinum Preferred. The Gold and Platinum Preferred levels are considered "elite levels" and members of those levels get added parks such as bonus Starpoints, free upgrades, 4pm late checkouts, and guaranteed room availability. Each elite level requires a minimum number of stays each year -- 10 stays for Gold and 25 stays for Platinum. Being a member of one of the elite levels is what I meant by "status".

Oh, I see. Going to the spg.com site, :surfweb: tells me I'm at Preferred Guest Plus level. I only got the AMEX card from them this summer, and have never stayed at any Starwood hotel since then, so my points are all from just getting and using the card.

So, I guess my answer is no, I have no status!!

I'm the OP with the pic of the bad view of the service area, dumpsters & construction. I have Starwood status & that's still what I got. The hotel was full, so your status isn't going to make a difference in that case.

Bingo. I have used points there at least 3 times now, and have had good and bad views. It seemed to depend on how full the hotel was each particular visit.
Ditto for upgrades on a paid room reservation. Have had great upgrades, and not really noticeable upgrades, depending on occupancy level.
