We're going to WDW for the first time in a couple of months, staying at the Poly, do you get given some pins when you check in? if not how do you get some pins in the first place to trade?

Check this seller out on ebay. I got a lot of 100 pins from this seller, and I have found several on the disney pins site for $7 or more. I only paid $71 roughly including shipping. I've found alot of good feedback on this seller and on the TGM boards.
lotzapinz is the ebay seller. Always has pins for sale in various sized lots. I just did a buy it now, because most of the auctions ended up being so close to the buy it now price, it wasn't worth wasting my time bidding.

Not to be rude, but this is poor advice. While the seller may have positive feedback ( which means they complete transactons in a satisfactory manner) it does not mean that the pins are authorized Disney pins. I would say that if you bought 100 pins for 71.00 (making them 0.71 each) then you received unauthorized products. In the pin trading world, those are called scrappers and/or fake pins.
Remember the old saying that if it seems too good to be true, then it probably isn't true!
We bought 200 pins from Ebay just before we went (only came back Tuesday) and we had no problems with trading, it worked out a lot better for us because all the pins in the starter sets our kids wanted to keep so didn't trade. We have bought sets from disney to keep, spending over $200 this time and keeping all of them.
We have traded fo3 weeks this summer and had no problems, just make sure you ask if they have the (c) Disney on the back before you bid/purchase

So you bought fake pins and then traded them for real ones......this is EXACTLY what we are trying to eliminate. In the future please do your research before buying pins from eBay, you can still get 200 pins but your chances of having real ones will be higher if you use our eBay super thread.
am i missing something? the pins are little pieces of metal, they have next to no real value, trading them is a way to pass a few minutes and like the pressed pennies is just a bit of fun.
As long as you get pins with your favourite characters does it matter if they are fakes so good you have to check them minutely to see the difference?
Yikes! This is why I am so hesitant to trade with CMs from lanyards. Good advice, pixiewings71.
