Star Wars - WHAT HAPPENED???

Just the other day, a bunch of us were trying to remember the original crawl at the beginning of Episode 4. The majority of us remember that it did not have any reference to being the 4th film, nor do we remember it being titled "A New Hope". I think that must have been added too.
You remembered correctly. It wasn't in the original release. It was simply "Star Wars." Lucas wanted "Ep4: A New Hope", there, but the studio wouldn't let him do it, fearing the title would confuse people. Once it was a smash, they let him put it in then gave the okay to do Ep5.

DH and I were dating in HS when the first ones came out. DH is a huge fan. I can't tell you how many double and triple features (remember those?) that we sat through. I think he saw the first on 30 or more times and we still watch the first and third on occasion. Point is we are fans of the series and we didn't care for the last two. Part of the difference is that the first three had pretty likeable characters and lots of action. The last two the characters were not that great. DS thought the last one was too "Mushy".

Yoda's light saber fight in ep2 alone was worth the price of admission ;)

Yoda's light saber fight in ep 2 was the only thing making me feel I didn't totally waste my time the night we went to see it. :teeth: I do admit I *loved* that part. :)

I was a huge fan of the original 3, starting at the age of 8, in 1977. But, I do agree, episode 2 bored me to tears, I actually got up and left for awhile. I know Mark Hamill tended to overact, but it seems to me everyone overacts in Ep. 2. Yoda is a hoot though, but it seemed so goofy!!!

I am intrigued though, by the whole storyline/background leading up to Ep. 4-6, so I will want to see 3, just to see how they finally tie it into the original.

I am with Old Kicker on this, both 1 and 2 SUCKED!! BRING BACK THE ORIGINALS!!!!;)

Besides the ever improving effects, one thing I liked about Ep 2, and Ep 1 for that matter, was watching the way the Emporer manipulated both sides so he could gain control and work towards consolidating power. He coaxes one side into starting a disagreement, then forces the other to respond, and so on, playing both sides like chess pieces, only he controls both sides.

By the end of Ep 2, he has caused the "good" Republic to create the very army it appears he will use to later squash the supporters of the true Republic.

There are also a few mysteries about characters from Ep 1 and 2 that have not played out yet.

Haven't seen it yet. I don't think I'll bother either, from the reviews here.

Episode 1 was a bore to me and Jar-jar was just awful. I could have done without the tiresome romance in Episode 2 but I liked the movie a lot more than Ep 1. As for characters, I liked Ob-1 and Yoda. I unfortunately just can't get into the Anakin character so far.

Like so many others, I'm looking forward to Episode 3 to see how they tie it to A New Hope. But I suspect that no matter how well-made the movie is, nothing will match the excitement of the original 3 movies for me. Times do change after all. Now I reserve that excitement for the Lord of the Rings movies! :teeth:

I enjoyed ATOTC more at home than when I saw it the first time in the theater. It's a "busy" movie and I got more out of it the second time. Like it better than TPM because of less Jar-Jar.
