our family just returned from our now annual WDW vacation. :earboy2: our sons 4 & 8 love Star Wars.We got to MGM right when they opened and rode Star Tours 3 times right in a row.The CM told my sons that if they like SW that much they should ask mom & dad to bring them down for the SW weekends.(Thanks!) :guilty: We stayed at GF :) so the money is a little tight.Should we start saving to try to go for one of these weekends? What exactly are these weekends like?Any info or advise would be great!!!

absolutely!

My 14 yo ds is a huge Star Wars fan - and he actually worked in our warehouse to earn his airfare to go to a Star Wars Weekend last year. We had all been to one the previous year (or might have been year before that -not sure) Just he & I went - and we had a blast! He was in HEAVEN! LOL He did trivia contests, posed w/ characters (although at 6'3", he towered over Luke Skywalker :rotfl: ) shopped for Star Wars stuff -

There are plenty of trivia contests, jedi training for younger kids, Who Wants to be a Millionaire -Star Wars Edition is fun, too. Plus they usually have a few cast members and behind the scenes people from the movies.

btw - if you go, you HAVE to get there b/f the park opens - the storm troopers do a pre-opening show of sorts - on top of the entrance gates - hilarious!

My son is already planning our next Star Wars weekend - definitely fun for the fanatic! (and his mom! :rotfl: )

Not sure about dates yet- but wanted to add that we stayed at the Boardwalk Inn - it was great being able to walk to MGM. I would do this if you are going to spend the majority of time there - (and we did - who knew you could spend 2 days, and I'm talking full days in a row at MGM?? with a kid who doesn't ride Rockin' Roller Coaster???? LOL)

Don't know what the dates are for 2006, but do know the SW dates were extended in 2005. We were lucky enough to be at Disney Studios on Father's Day. My DH thought it was all just for him, as he is a huge SW fan and I hadn't mentioned it to him beforehand. It was lots of fun, but also very crowded. :flower:

Absolutely worth it! We have a priceless pic of DS with Chewbacca rubbing the top of his head! Do it but be at the park when it opens because that side of the park gets crowded especially during celebrity signings.

May the force be with you.......always!

My seven year old son and I were there this year for Star Wars Weekend. He is a huge fan and was so excited about the event. We were dissapointed. It was wall to wall people. You needed a fast pass to stand in line for autographs. It was crazy.
I know most people love this event. It just didn't work out for us.

We were lucky enough to attend SWW last May and it was AWESOME!!! Yes, there are increased crowds around the characters and at the parades. But NOTHING beats getting your picture taken with Anakin Skywalker on one corner and a Jawa on another!!! My son is 9 and he had a BLAST!! We HAD to have the SWW t-shirts and of COURSE the Jedi Mickey and Darth Mickey--they duel it out nightly in my son's room!!!! Besides all that fun, it was THE COOLEST THING to see my 59 year old mother turn into a pile of blushing goo when Jedi Mickey hugged her and she got her picture taken!!!! WE are DEFINITELY going again May 2006!!!! May the Force be with you (I've always wanted to say that!!!)

I've got the best picture of DS8 having a light saber fight with Darth Vader. If your sons are fans, they will have the time of their life! DS was picked for the jedi training and got to fight Darth Maul. They gaving him a gift bag with a little action figure and a certificate naming him an official padawan! He loved that! Star Wars characters are everywhere and they all look so real! It really is a lot of fun.

The costumed characters you see are the members of the 501st Florida Garisson and some other satellite garissons. You can read more about the 501st here: www.501st.com
As a member, we do all kinds of charity events for children and if you want a little bit of Star Wars before your trip; try to attend an event they are showing up at.
You can also read more info at my site, www.tc-7623.ca
I'm hoping to get enough sales done to attend SW Weekends in costume next year; perhaps Timon and I will get to see you all then.
