Some people aren't happy if they aren't complaining about something. Too many people these days go to movies with the intention of picking apart every little thing.

I go to movies to enjoy them. I really enjoyed this movie, it was excellent. It's without a doubt the movie of the year and that's saying a lot with movies like Thor Ragnorok and Wonder Woman coming out this year.
:sad2:

I liked "new Leia" and I wish they hadn't killed her off 30 minutes after introducing her.

I’ll bite. How was Leia new in the beginning of this movie and how did she change after 30 mins (I’m assuming you mean the space flight)? Or are you saying you liked Force-using Leia and wished they had kept that consistent thru the rest of the movie? Despite not liking that scene as it was, if they had made more of her being a Force user I could’ve been more into it instead of her just going back to being General Leia like nothing happened.

Rian Johnson Says Rey’s Parents Can Still Be Important In Episode 9

As we’ve been discussing...

“However, Johnson, who wrote and directed The Last Jedi has confirmed Kylo Ren’s claim may not be the final say on Rey’s parents.Speaking with the Huffington Post, Johnson said: “Anything’s still open, and I’m not writing the next film. [J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio] are doing it.””

I’ve never really been a JJ Abrams fan (going back to the 90s) but apparently he’s now my last, best hope to make sense of this all. :upsidedow

Just curious also if anyone thinks the trilogy will end without a Kylo redemption? I kind of feel like it has to go that way. But I guess he could just be defeated. I can’t see them ending the trilogy with the bad guys in power. But maybe since there’s another trilogy on the way, they will. Thoughts?

With Kylo being the only Skywalker left in this Skywalker saga (assuming they don’t shift Rey’s parentage in that direction), it would seem like a depressing end for him to stay evil and be defeated. But redemption seems a bit boring... mirroring Vader. I don’t know...

In the Star Wars verse when you go to the Dark Side it doesn't end well for you. So if he stays dark I don't see him surviving. But I can imagine the First Order continuing on under Hux. Hux got more funny at the end. Like he couldn't beleive he was following that guy.

But they might keep him alive. Who knows at this point.

You’ve summed up my feelings better than I’ve been able to. I’m not sure how they get to a satisfying end from here. Redemption makes this whole trilogy feel like a reboot (to me anyway) and no redemption feels pretty depressing for the Skywalker legacy.

I think it will be centered around Kylo as far as ending the Skywalker saga - but I think it will be a third option. Not staying evil (at least in not the conventional sense) but not fully redeeming himself either. Maybe a bit of a scorched earth type moment or something - like willing to sacrifice himself to truly end the cycles of the past

Well my ideal ending, unlikely, Kylo turns Rey and they go Dark Side on the Resistance. Or I would like to see, very unlikely, Rey turned to the dark side during events between movies. Finn and friends stage an risky mission to rescue her, turn her back and Kylo goes down the shaft.

Most likely yes, JJ will end the movie with Rey saving Kylo and force ghost family Ben, Luke, Leia and Ben can hug it out.

I was making a joke about Vice Admiral Holdo. I kind of liked her role and thought she was going to be "new Leia" in the sense that Rey is "new Luke". But then they killed her off 30 minutes later. And no, I wasn't a big fan of flying Leia but it wasn't the part of the movie that really caused me to dislike it.

Me neither and yes. Uggh.

I really hope it ends with Whiny's head being separated from his body. Preferably by a Porg or some other insignificant non-Force wielding character relegating him to the dustbin of Star Wars. But that's just my preference.

Since they are following the arc of the OT so closely I don't think the bad guys will win. TFA ended with the good guys triumphant over the super weapon just like Episode IV, TLJ ended with the Rebels in pretty much complete disarray, just like Empire. I fully expect Episode VI will end with the good guys seemingly on the upswing or at least with the First Order seemingly knocked out. Then they can do the next trilogy using a completely different story line since they seem to be cutting as many ties to the OT as possible.

I'm guessing the next trilogy will be a galaxy with no galaxy spanning government and some people trying to pull it back from the anarchy caused by 3 trilogies of war. That will go with the theme they introduced in the stupid casino plot of evil rich people and the galaxy's downtrodden ready to seize the new Force and aim for economic utopia!

Seems like the entire thing is a mess...honestly. My novice opinion

I am thinking it will end up with a Prime/Grey Jedi.... hopefully two of them to balance the force. How that happens I have no idea.

Will end with Cliff Hanger. Kylo injured, but definitely not dead. He'll be left to leave, thought to be power less only to return in future films. Leaving the door open for another trilogy or side story.

Since the "resistance" is left with less than a full major league squad...and the leader is dead...I just hope the ownership really commits itself to developing a "first class organization"...it needs to set a good scouting department, make good international signings, and build the farm system.

Sorry I'm late to the party....

As a huge SW fan, I'm extremely disappointed. It was very disjointed, characters such as Snoke and Captain Phasma are now nothing but wasted characters, Finn and Rose on Canto Bight just bored me, and personally, I hate Rian Johnson's treatment of Luke Skywalker. But above all, it completely discredits TFA. Just my opinion, don't slaughter me for it. We're all allowed to have opinions, right?

I give Rian Johnson credit for trying something different, and there were moments where I was on the edge of my seat. But overall, I give it 2 stars, and that's being generous. But you won't see me signing these petitions to remove it from canon, you won't hear me shouting to the top of my lungs, "RIAN JOHNSON RUINED STAR WARS!!" I think that's a bit overzealous.

Regardless, I can't wait for Ep IX, I think JJ will clean things up, and Star Wars has a bright future. They just missed the mark on this one.

I don't think you will be slaughtered - you definitely aren't the only one to have that view

and I don't disagree with all your points - I personally tihnk the good more than enough outweighed the bad so would probably give it more like 3.25 stars or something ... definitely wasn't a perfect film

This was the worst of the star wars movies! I was a huge star wars fan...until now. Episode 8 has ended my love of the star wars universe. SW is about 2 things...the force and the skywalkers. Luke has ben turned into a wimp, lea can fly like superman, rey is flawless ith zero training. As a stand alone it would have been okay but not as part of the sw line

I had issues with it as well, but it certainly didn't kill my love for Star Wars.

Well put!!

I talked to another half dozen people out in the real world (not online) and all of them have said they liked it or loved it, though one mentioned that their dad hated it. It's definitely the most divisive Star Wars movie! Though if I remember when Phantom Menace came out it had it's defenders. Eventually though almost no one genuinely liked TPM. I don't feel like that will be the case here - those of us that like this movie will probably still like it on rewatch.

And even though I liked it, I get where some of the dislike comes from. I get that Rey being so powerful with no training could be annoying. I get Luke being such an d-bag could offend a lot of people. I get eliminating Snoke before he even becomes a character could also be disliked. Just personally I didn't mind or actually enjoyed each of these things. There's no right or wrong to the subject of course.

I might not come back to this thread at this point. I tend to get tired of these types of discussions - they get very repetitive after awhile.

They are repetitive because each new person posts why they liked or disliked it. There are only so many things to like or not, but that's kind of what the thread is for. If you visit my office I could point you to a half dozen people that really didn't like it, and about the same amount that did. Lot of people in the world, a lot of opinions. My dad like it, my brother in law thinks Rian should be... well he thinks something horrible should happen to him. I fall mostly in the dislike camp, but there are sequences and characters I like. Just overall, my feeling after the movie was not a positive one.

Im new at this...but I think any comparison of the reaction to phantom menace...or to the movie and empire...is tremendously tone deaf and trapped in fan fervor/the moment.

Disney has now shown a serious lack of control/direction in its scripts...how did a movie with a 40 minute side plot with 3 useless characters ever make it out of edits?

They have a box office problem too...at quick glance...the domestic will flatline around $600 and the foreign is very soft overall...china is tracking for a $75 mil total take. Is $1.3-1.4 a failure? No...is that figure good as an indicator with a 35% drop from the The Abrams Awakens with the key character - Luke skywalker - being brought back, altered, and then sorts killed? No again.

And please don't go!!! Are you going skiing or something? I take your name literally, don't I?
