Discussion of non-Star Wars space franchise in Star Wars thread

Woah...major geeker convie going here...when did I get to the Star Trek convention?

You chaps have apparently way more time and money to spend on watching tv than I do...

Hah. You'll lose all respect when you learn the movie choice tonight was 3D Little Mermaid... :rotfl:

The 3D thing has always been overhyped for me. To me, the actors look like paper dolls moving about a 3D environment at the start of the film. After a few minutes, my eyes adjust and the actors and environment look like a normal 2D film.

So I avoid paying for 3D when I have a reasonable option to see a film in 2D. I will say, however, that I recently saw In The Heart Of The Sea in 3D. For once, the actors didn't look like paper dolls. It was decent 3D. But as with all 3D movies, my eyes soon adjusted and everything looked like a 2D movie. I could reset the 3D effect by briefly removing my glasses, but even then, my eyes would soon readjust.

In any case, things never jump out of the screen at me. So I'll happily be willing to get the Blu Ray edition in stunning 2D next month.

I love 3d, but it's pretty useless if you don't have a projector. Everything looks like cutouts on a smaller screen. As far as I know 3d isn't part of the 4k blu ray standard so it will be effectively dead for home theater. I also think that the movie companies have learned that offering the same experience later for the home doesn't help theater sales. The home experience has gotten too good, but if the 3d/70mm/Imax releases are only available in the theaters it will give people a reason to go out. The 3d home theater enthusiast probably has the money for expensive tickets anyway and I know I would be much more likely to see a movie like star wars in in 3d in a movie theater If i thought I couldn't just see it later.

Remember a couple years back they were gonna release all the Newer movies in 3D...but I think they didn't do very well and the live action movies started raking in bucks so they abandoned the plan

If you've ever seen TLM in 3D you'd begin to understand. :). It's amazing how far animation has come in 25 years.
