I just got back from MGM. I went over this morning to look at the Star Wars Weekend merchandise. I got there about 9:30am. They were not letting people into the shop. You had to stand in line and they would let a few people in at a time. They were not letting anyone getting off the ride stay in the shop. There was already a line from Tantooine Traders back to the Muppets. I got in the line and stayed there for an hour and a half. At that point, they said it would be another two hours to get into the shop. Once in the shop, it would be another hour to get to the cash register. At that point, I said forget it and left. Of course, there were a lot of people there for the limited edition pins and the Darth Mickeys. They only made 3000 of the Darth Mickeys and were limiting people to two. I had no interest in the pins, but would have loved to get a Darth Mickey. Oh well.

I think they could have set things up better. If they had set up several pin stations around the park, people could have moved through much faster. They could have set up a separate line for the Darth Mickeys.

I felt sorry for many of the people in line. They just wanted one of Star Wars weekend T-Shirts and were going to be going home. They were wasting the last day of their vacation in line. Just before leaving the line, I gave my email id to a guy from the UK. He was in line with a baby. He really wanted a T-shirt, but there was no way he was going to be able to stand in the sun for 4 or 5 hours with that baby. I told him to email me and I'd get a T-shirt another day and mail it to him.

They need to organize this thing better!

Disney is so good at moving people waiting in lines for rides, but for some reason just does not 'get' it when it comes to special events purchases. We have had the same type of problems when we have gone to pin events. Everyone is in a very long line and only one place to get what you need.
I agree a couple of booths for purchases would make more sense! We will be there the last weekend of the starwars event hope they get things worked out by then and have some merchandise left!!

I'd be really sad if I cant get my hands on a Darth Mickey, we're not going til the weekend of June 3rd :(

I hate to say it, but I doubt there will be any left. In fact, I would imagine they are all gone by now. If they only made 3000 (that was the number someone in line told me) and they were letting people get two, they wouldn't last very long. I will be going back tomorrow. I hope things are better!

is it going to be like that every weekend, ya think? or was it just bad because it's the first weekend?

I've been there before, but never on opening morning. It wasn't bad in prior years. Let's hope it was just today!

Feralpeg you are a little shopping angel. :wizard: I can't believe it is that crazy already for the Star wars stuff. Now a Darth Mickey sounds cool.

Wow - I can't believe how bad that sounds. The only lines we saw last year during SWW were for the autographs for both actors and the most popular characters.

I am guessing that the line was so incredibly long because of it being the only place to get Mickey. I bought all of our t-shirts, posters, etc with no problem last year at the store that is right around the corner from there (in the building that they were showing the sneak preview in last year - and where Drew's thing is). Is that still open this year?

Hope things get better for you today!

Wow, that really sucks about the Darth Mickeys, I'd LOVE one of those.

Is it possible they are holding stock; only putting out so many of the 3000 each weekend? That would make it much more fair.. We're going to be there next Saturday, I really hope that's the case and that there's some left! I guess we could really hop over to MGM if we wanted on Friday.

Thanks for the info!

Just a note as to why it might be done like this...

If you have something available at ONE location, you can control the theft of a produt better. I do beleive that they are most likely limiting the access because SW:EPIII was just released and this is in conjunction with the event. People are in a serious SW frenzy right now.

As for holding back stock, its true they do do that... and I wouldn't doubt that it is 3000 Darth Mickey's each weekend or each day. That stock would go VERY quickly.

Hi peggy,
This is depressing! :sad2: I was hoping they put some of the Darth Mickeys out each weekend. How early did you get there? We are going next Friday and I want to get in line early. Travis will have to have a Darth Mickey- even if I have to buy it on e-bay, a t-shirt and some pins I'm sure. He is now a full fledge Star Wars nut. We went to see Episode III last night. He will just freak when he finds out we will be there next Friday! I hope we can also get Jedi Mickeys when we are there but the Darths are adorable! Guess I'll be in line for 1/2 a day of my trip :sad2: :sad2:

I've kept quiet long enough. What's a Darth Mickey?

Hi,

Here he is:

Me too as I've got a friend going down right after Memorial Day and hoping to have him pick on up for me. Though if the lines are as bad as indicated, I won't ask him to spend that kind of time. If they haven't already, they'll show up on ebay and I'll snag one there.

Edit: Put wrong holiday in there! DOH!

I hope you mean Memorial Day, because there definitely won't be any SWW merchandise around after Labor Day!

Has anyone tried calling, I don't remember what they're called, but the Disney department that will try to get you merchandise from the parks?

They are not allowing deliveries to resorts and such. You have to physically buy and pick up the Mickey's. (already tried :p)
