This fall DD and her husband will be coming with me for their first visit to WDW. My son-in-laws number one goal is to ride star tours over and over to see all the different destinations. My question is how many different films are there, and what is the best way to see a different one each time you go on the ride? Do you ask to go in a different theatre? Or do they switch them up?

It's random and they are split into pieces so you have to ride a lot to see every possible clip. (I thikn it's 4 parts in total). I think it's only like 5 or 6 completely different sequences but when mixed up in clips it takes longer to see them all (and you probably wont).

you don't get to pick, the person running it doesn't know what it'll be.. you just go in and hope for the best..

So last fall we rode it three times in one day, three in another. We got the exact same sequence four out of six rides! It's not guaranteed that you'll have different experiences.

As of right now scene 2 and 3 are fixed in Force Awakens, so those are not random
You can get 2 different openings, with Vader or Droid
Then fixed trip to Jakku
Fixed BB8 transmission
Random ending scene could be Battle over Death Star, Battle over Coruscant or battle in Naboo
I've asked cm multiple times when scenes 2 and 3 well go back to random but they have no clue

Thanks for the info. I didn't know they had footage from The Force Awakens. We will probably ride it two or three times on our upcoming trip.

Yeah, they've had it since December last year, I wish it would go back to random for those 2 scenes. I miss Hoth and Kashyyyk at the beginning and the transmissions from Admiral Ackbar and Yoda. I'm hoping it goes back to all random once Rogue One comes out, no word yet if there will be a Rogue One scene

I found the combination of Vader and Finn a tad confusing! Vader is dead before Finn becomes who he is in the video!

If he is there over a Saturday his best bet to see the most scenes is to buy a ticket to DHS Early Morning Magic on a Saturday morning. Virtually no crowd,s so Star Tours should be a walk on over and over again.

When I was at DLR last month I did NOT get the Jakku scene (got Kashyyyk), which surprised me since it's still "Seasons of the Force" in Tomorrowland over there. Is it possible it has been changed back at DHS too? Just wondering.

If the Jakku scene is not forced then you can get one of four:

Hoth (ice planet)
Kashyyyk (Wookies)
Tatooine (pod race)
Jakku (desert planet with Force Awakens characters)

Then you can get a transmission from:

Leia
Yoda
Admiral Ackbar
BB-8 (I don't know if BB-8 is always paired with the Jakku scene or not)

I think you should manage your son-in-law's expectations in advance. Riding over and over at rope drop still won't be any guarantee that he'll see all of the possible parts, even if they switch back to the regular parts two and three before his arrival. Random is random. I'll tell you from experience there's nothing more annoying than having a favorite ST scene (Naboo), reriding as often as possible, and having it never come up until the next time you visit. Save him the heartache now.

No, we rode several times last month. It's still fixed on the Force Awaken scenes.

Brings up a question, anyone every counted how many possible combinations there are, once they remove the fixed scenes? If they were to keep those scenes in rotation

To answer the OP's original question, there are three different scenes for leaving the spaceport, four different planets to visit first, three mid-flight transmissions and three final destinations. That was before the Force Awakens additions (I have not been there since then). Good luck!

Has anyone else noticed that the Naboo scene itself has multiple endings?

I did notice this. The first time I saw it was in Tokyo, so I wondered if it was just different there. I saw the different ending too at DL last month. Is it multiple endings or did they just change it?

There are also 2 variations of the Naboo scene that you can get. There are 2 different possibilities when they first enter the water & 2 different endings. I haven't noticed if they added variations to any of the other scenes.

When ST was first updated, it took 7 rides for my son & I to experience each different scene. But, I think we were luckier than most. And that was before the Jakku & BB8 scenes were added.
