Standing up at concerts

I LOVE Bryan Adams! He NEVER comes to the Northwest anymore though. I've been to more than 15 of his shows and have never been disappointed! He's also very nice to his fans is usually willing to sign autographs and stuff. I love artists like Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, John Mellencamp...you know, the ones who consistantly put out good music year after year, and who tends to "grow up" with their fans. I can go to these shows at 30-something and be in the audience with the same people who saw them 20 years ago! I totally love that!

I will not buy floor seats anymore because all the people stand up and would a waste of money. I buy the gold cirlcle seats so I can see the concert.


Concerts hardly come to Chattanooga anymore. I usually have to Atlanta to see good concerts.

If they bring someone to Chattanooga that I won't to see they bring them to a club and I don't go. Because I can not stand to be in a smoke fill enironment because of health problems.

This is my first post on the Community Board! I'm not a huge concert goer, but have been to see Garth Brooks 3 times (woohoo!) and just had to stand for the entire show! I believe he would be disappointed if everyone just sat there. I also notice that we Canadians are typically much more sedate at concerts than concerts in the US. Concerts in the US are a lot more fun! I saw Toby Keith last summer in Toronto and I was amazed at how many people just sat there the whole time! I was very aware of how much I was standing and sat more than I wanted to! Just my 2 cents!

So you guys are the ones who block my view when I'd like to sit there and enjoy the music! So I'm not buying a SEAT, I'm just buying the standing room? That was never explained to me.

Just out of curiosity...how do the non-standers handle general admission shows where there are no seats?

I much prefer GA because this problem is solved...everybody stands...or sits on the floor and watches people's knees. My partner and I are following our favorite band all over the West coast this summer (12 Indigo Girls shows in 20 days) and we have purposely only purchased tickets for GA shows to avoid the battle between the sitters and the non-sitters.

To answer the previous question...I've always looked at it as purchasing a space more than a seat. I started going to concerts when I was 14 years old and have since been to hundreds of shows. In my experience, the majority of people who are up close chose to stand and dance, and the people who buy tickets further back chose to sit. Based on the shows I've been to, it seems a reasonable conclusion to say that if you chose to be up front at a rock concert, prepare to be on your feet. I WOULD respect the majority if in fact most people were seated, but there is no way that I'd pay my money to sit on my fanny and look at the backside of the person in front of me.

Have I mentioned that I much prefer General Admission???? Guaranteed front row center standing space every time!

That's exactly the reason I will not buy floor seats anymore. I'm only 5' tall and if people stand up in front of me I can't see, unless I stand on the chair then the person behind me can't see either. I don't mind standing up for the first song when the performer comes out, and for the encore, but for the rest of the concert I want to sit and listen. I don't want to watch people dance, and hear them try to sing along...I paid to see/hear the performer, NOT the people in front of me.

We attend concerts at our local casino and nobody stands. The assigned seats are at tables (10 chairs per table) and then "general admission" seating (no tables) in the back. It's great because you're not "up and down" all the time, or trying to see over people who refuse to sit down.

I guess that's why I really don't care much for seeing the NASCAR races in person. We have season tickets for the two here in Michigan every year, and I just go to the June race with DH, then give my ticket to our DS or DD for the August race. I don't mind standing up for the start of the race, but people are constantly getting up and down during the race, it's ridiculous. Sit down, enjoy the race, and everybody behind you can see too!!
