What is the chances of getting a waterview(Sassagoula River) when I booked a standard view reservation?:confused3

I think time of year has a lot to do with it. However, I think your chances are practically nil. If you want the river view, pay for it.

I would guess about 50/50. You never know until you ask.

(If you will not be happy and having a river view is extremely important, then I agree to pay for the upgrade)

FWIW, Riverside is all so pretty. I don't think the view will make or break a trip.

When booking standard view, I just cross my fingers that I dont get a parking lot view.

Sure it has to do with when you are going-how busy or full the resort is. We went the first week of May & had a standard room. When we were checking in the CM asked us if we wanted a partial waterview room. Now even if you pay for waterview, it just might be a pool & not the river. I don't think they can guarantee that. I really wanted AB section, not the mansion & that is where the waterview room was. I politely asked if there was anything in AB & he came back & pretty much let us pick our building! Not the room # or anything. Have to say having stayed there, there really aren't that many direct riverview rooms. Probably more in the AB section than the mansions. And with no private balcony to sit on... I would just pay standard, maybe ask so sweetly  at checkin, & if not enjoy the beauty of the resort by going for a walk & sitting awhile on a bench or gazebo by the river. We love POR & can't wait to go back.

From experience -- Don't pay extra for a water view! A large number of the water views are of "quiet pools" which aren't necessarily quiet...

We paid for a water view & got to see the pool. Very few rooms in the Alligator Bayou area have river views. If you aren't in the Bayou area, then ask at check in. Either way, I wouldn't put it on your ressie. I think the price difference is fairly high IMO and remember you don't have private balacony to really enjoy the view.

When I pay for standard view at POR, boy do I get it! I always get a mansion with a parking lot view and near absolutely nothing. Oh well. Only nice thing was I could park my car close to my door! I am the kind of person who is affected by the view - I felt lonely and isolated out there by the parking lot. Next time (if there ever is a next time at POR!) I would pay for water view, just to get out of the boonies.

I am also affected by the view and am scared that we'll get the parking lot in September.

You sound like me!! I have bad luck when it comes to resort rooms. Fortunately, dh is the opposite; so I try to have him do the check-in. When staying at deluxes, he has ALWAYS been upgraded. pixiedust:

Ironically, very few of the POR rooms overlook parking lots. In fact, several buildings are not even adjacent to them. Here's hoping dh continues to have good luck (and I stay out of the way during check-in) in 2 weeks. :cool1:

Consider faxing ina room request 4 days prior and indidcate you would like to upgrade to a waterview room (you do need to be willing to pay for such.) Also, ask at check in. It may or may not work, but you can try!

Don't take the chance on a parking lot view, it's not that much more. The thing about a parking lot view isn't just the view. We had one at POFQ on the ground floor and every person that parked in our area had to walk past our room. It was like Grand Central Station. We moved the next day to a nice court yard view. I guess if you were upstairs it wouldn't be so bad or if you don't plan on being in the room much.

I've booked a standard room at POR twice times now and have not been upgraded, but have not had a parking lot view either. So I will continue to book standard and hope for the best!

Thanks, I have always booked standard and I too have never had a parking lot view. I just thought or was thinking it would be nice to be upgraded. We will be at POR around 7:30 to pick up our park passes and just thought maybe we could be upgraded being it was sooo early.....

The water view is not worth the extra money. Just request a room in AB and you will have a great view most of the time.

I would however suggest paying extra for the KING bed room.

Hey it never hurts to ask! Who knows, you may get lucky!

I booked Standard at Dixlie Landings twice....received a parking lot view once (luckily it was only a 1 night stay) and received a nice view of a garden area the 2nd time =)

The only other time I booked stanard was at CSR and we had a nice garden view as well.

See I requested to be near a parking lot. I have a wheelchair and would like to keep it in my truck (not the tiny room), so I need to be a close walk to the parking lot. I guess I'll have to deal with a parking lot view but we are really only in our room to sleep. We commando - open to closing!

Maybe I'll get lucky and get a close room with a pleasant view.

Last time there my request was for a room on the river side of Magnolia Terrace. I had to explain very carefully to the castmember at check in that I wasn't asking for water view (which she pointed out that I hadn't paid extra for). I really just wanted to be on that side of the building so we would be closer to the pool, food, marina, etc.

We ended up with a nice room on one of the "wings" that reach out toward the river. We didn't have a water view due to a huge tree right in the way, but we had a nice view of the central courtyard.

If you really want a nice view of the river, there are more rooms with better views of the water just downstream at POFQ.
