stand up for the 20 leagues ride

Disney Land, 1971, I was a small child, and I rode 20000 Leagues. I thought it was the most amazing thing. I was on a real sub. I was underwater and looking at the sea. I thought Disney had their own area that the fish just hung out in. I am glad that I have the memories of the ride and I will never see it in my minds eye as anything else. Of course, that trip I was really scared about being shrunken down and injected into a body.

It really was a cool ride for the kids back then. It was one of my favorites as a kid. I hear DL might be making a new version of it on a finding nemo theme. But at WDW, it's gone. But it really got kind of old and trashy. And what once was cool is now ho hum and not all that realistic. The proliferation of surround aquariums pretty much did it in.

LMAO were you scared of that ride. I was too as a little kid. I suppose kids would be. I remember the cars went into that big laser thing, it spewed out confetti or something. Of course the cars turned left and entered the exhibit before you actually went through it but you couldn't see that before you got on. What was that called. Inner space or something like that. Those cars looked like something out of Dr. Seuss to as I recall.

Now there's a ride that both DH and I remember fondly from our childhoods. We both miss that one lol! Honestly, I can't say I miss 20K all that much though - the last few times we rode it we commented that it really needed improvement, with the fake fish and all.

I thought it was fun. The younger you are or the 1st time you rode it the more realistic. Closest thing to a sub most of us will ever do.
I hear Mr. Toads Wild Ride is gone too - that was one of my favorites
Alas, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is gone too. That one was probably about the same in thrill factor as the 20k (which means kinda cheesy), but at least Mr. Toad's was trying to keep the torch lit for all of those dark rides of years gone by - lol. For that, I will forever love Mr. Toad

Inner Space rings a bell. I had just seen the Incredible Voyage movie and thought that people could really be shrunk. I was small as a kid. My learners permit at 15 says I was 4'10" (I probably lied at that), so at 6 I was tiny. I come from a family of teasing Amazons. I was afraid that I was never going to get back to my normal size. Of course, it did not help that my mom was playing into it...LOL. My most vivid memory was Mom pointing up so I would see the eye looking at us like we were under a microscope. Everything was real to me then.

:rotfl: families can be cruel ... but funny. All hail the vertically challenged!
