NEW YORK (AP) -- If the U.S. Postal Service delivered mail for free, our mailboxes would surely runneth over with more credit-card offers, sweepstakes entries, and supermarket fliers. That's why we get so much junk e-mail: It's essentially free to send. So Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates, among others, is now suggesting that we start buying "stamps" for e-mail.

Things that make you go, "Hmm?".

Anyone ever see that Candid Camera (i think) episode where they were in the post office and trying to sell email stamps to people for a penny each??

If it stops those idiotic spams I get on a daily basis... btw, guys I'm not MALE so stop sending them to me!!!! I'm all for it! :p

My thought of an alternative is email should be treated like text messages on cell phones. You pay to send a message, nothing to receive. It could be incorporated in to your monthly plan for service.

I'd go broke if they charged for "postage" on emails. It might be worth it to get rid of the spam, though :teeth:
