I currently have a Kitchenaid stainless steel stove that I absolutely hate because of the water stains all over the back that was caused by steaming pots. I posted a while back on tips to remove and nothing has worked. Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a defect with Kitchenaid?

If you don’t have the problem, do you not boil potatoes or pasta or anything that steams on the back burners?

We are now looking at black stainless stove which I actually like the look of better than the regular stainless and will not get Kitchenaid ever again but am still worried that I will have problems with water staining. The new stove that I am looking at is Samsung.

Any input on the black stainless stoves?

Thanks.

I LOVE THE BLACK STAINLESS!!!
However, we are purchasing a new construction home and that is not an option, I was disappointed. They won't give me a credit either to not put in any appliances and let me purchase my own.

Have you tried the Weimans stainless cleaner? It works great and I don't have any water stains on my stove.

We have a cook top that has stainless steel edge around the whole thing. I've never gotten any water marks on it. Everything that does get on it while cooking wipes right off. What kind of water spots? I have stainless on dishwasher and refrigerator also and literally use a wet cloth to wipe them done and never get any water marks either. Not sure what you are getting from cooking.

I've tried several different cleaners months ago but have just given up on it. The stains just won't come off.

The stains started when I was boiling potatoes and they boiled over a bit hitting the stainless steel. They are discolored smudges that look awful. I try not to use the back burners as much as I can but sometimes if the others are used, I use them. It has gotten worse as other things with steam hit it. Steam from veggies and pasta caused further stains.

Have you tried Bar Keeper's friend? My husband was cleaning our grout and some of the cleaner splashed on the bottom of our fridge and took the shine off. I used Bar Keeper's Friend and it cleaned it right up. Use a microfiber cloth.

I second Bar Keeper's Friend. I have a glass cook top, which I hate but they are just about all you can buy now. Tried everything in the world to keep that thing clean (honey likes to boil over his tea and splash anything else he is cooking) and a friend recommended Bar Keeper's Friend. It keeps it 95% clean, there are still some burns stops that I have to take the good ole razor blade to. We also use it, the Bar Keeper's Friend not the razor blade, on the front of our stainless steel dishwasher. I had the forethought to buy a nickle finish fridge instead of stainless when we bought it so it doesn't show finger prints.

I love our glass cook top. I use the Weiman spray cook top cleaner after every use. Had it for two years and looks brand new.

Our range has a black stove top. The rest is brushed stainless. Is that what you're talking about? If so I just clean it with method spray cleaner and wipe with a microfiber cloth. Occasionally I put the grates in the dishwasher.

My 16 yo practically lives on pasta so water is boiling all over the place. We've had it for 10 years and it still looks good. I do have to clean it every few days otherwise it looks dirty but that's it.

I'm guessing the stainless steel on my stove must be defective or something since everyone else here seems to just be able to wipe it up. I'm not talking about the glass cook top, I'm talking about the actual steel is all discolored from the steam.

Apparently, yes. I contacted KitchenAid over the spots on my new stove...mine were all over the front and looked horrible. Tomato sauce that splattered was wiped immediately and still left bad spots. Steam from boiling water...anything really that touched the steel left spots. The cleaner supplied by KitchenAid themselves did NOTHING to remove these spots. A rep who came to look at the stove told me to use some WD-40 to clean with. That was it.. WD-40! It didn't work either. I was told by someone who works with steel that a really cheap grade was used by KitchenAid and that's why it spotted so bad.

I don't own anything that is stainless black but I will. I was out looking at refrigerators and fell in love with the stainless black. I've always hated regular stainless so our appliances are black. I had a stainless toaster and I know what you mean about the spots, I could never get it clean. Oddly enough it was a Kitchenaid.

WOW, I am staying away from Kitchenaid products after reading this, there seems to be a defect for sure.

Regarding "black" stainless appliances, keep in mind that underneath the surface layer it's just regular "silver" stainless...so any scratches or dents will be bright silver and not black if you ever accidentally damage it. I hadn't thought about it before an appliance salesman showed me a ding-and-dent black stainless fridge and pointed out the silver scrape and dent on the corner. The black color does not go all the way through.

WOW, I didn't think of that, thanks for letting us know.
