St. Croix??

Is there a way to get to St. Croix from any of the ports on the Eastern Carribean??

No. St. Thomas would be the closest, but St. Croix is 40 miles to the south. The only way to get to St. Croix from St. Thomas is to fly, the ferry has been discontinued. The ferry ride was also 4 hours long.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever BEEN to St. Croix?? I have, and if you haven't, you aren't missing anything. We spent 5 days there in a rather nice beachfront condo. It's junky and dirty. Nothing like the brochures and postcards. This IS only my personal opinion. If anyone out there loved it, great. We just hated it and would never go back. (BUT there a few pretty sites on the island. they're just on the top of a mountain and rather hard and treacherous to get to!! There's a long story here, but I'll spare you..)

I also have been to St. Croix, and it is about the same as St. Thomas IMO. Both crowded and dirty in the cities, with nice beaches at the resorts and around the island. Buck Island near St. Croix, is still one of the best snorkling experiences I've ever had. BEAUTFUL!!! Your experience on St. Croix, is entirely where you stay. If you stay at a nice resort, we were at the Buccaneer, then you'll enjoy it. Would I ever return to St. Croix, no. I much prefer St. John, much more quiet, and MUCH nicer beaches.

St. Croix has become dirty and dangerous. That's why all the cruise lines have pulled out.

We have a friend who was living and working down there, and just moved back to the states as it wasn't worth the hassle of having his car broken into every week and getting mugged twice in six months. He's a young, strapping guy who just moved back to NYC, so we're not talking an easy target.

Yes, there are one or two decent resorts (he worked at one of them as a computer programmer type) but what good is it if you can't leave the resort in the middle fo teh day without becoming a vistim of crime.
