Great pics! I don't have many of those since I typically was behind a video camera. Lots of complete matches though!!!

Man I miss those days of sitting on hard bleachers all day long for a few minutes of watching the boys wrestle!!! (well, okay, maybe not so much....) :rolleyes1

Kathy, I enjoyed the pictures of Markie coaching. As others have said, it looks like he's loving it.

Happy Belated Birthday to Mark!

The pictures of Markie are great. He looks like he is having a blast while doing a great job. You must be so proud:goodvibes

Sounds like Markie has a bright future ahead of him in coaching, you have every right to be proud!

I don't think I have ever posted on a PTR or TR of yours but the pictures of wrestling brought me out of lurkdom. My dad was a wrestling coach when I was in elementary school and it is one of my favorite sports. Seeing your pictures brought back so many happy memories for me! One birthday my dad asked my what I would like to do and I said, "Go to the championship high wrestling match!". So that is what we did - spent the whole day with my dad watching wrestling...good times.

I enjoy your TR's and PTR's so much. The banter that goes on between you other dissers is icing on the cake!

Great pics Kathy!! It sure looks like Mark was very into his role as coach. You can tell he loves what he's doing! Of course you're proud, it looks like he did a great job!:thumbsup2 My youngest brother wrestled all through high school and is still doing some recreational (I guess that's what you call it if it's not professional?:confused3) wrestling. I used to hold my breath everytime he'd get slammed to the floor:eek:! Talk about nerve wracking.

What good parents you are to drive 4 1/2 hours to watch a 7 hour wrestling match too. Glad to hear dinner was good for Mark's b-day. It must've been so nice to be able to be together for his b-day.:goodvibes

I thought of a new use for that inappropriate pic of Tim and his whip...a screen saver! Not for me because, well DH would think that quite strange, but for you Kathy!:thumbsup2

And you're right, I did come to the right place for fun!:thumbsup2

Thanks, Molly. He wrestled for 15 years and it is in his blood and he'll always be involved. Believe it or not, but the 4-1/2 hours was a "short" ride compared to some of the rides we used to make when he actually wrestled.

Oh, I'm not sure Mark would like that. :rotfl::rotfl:

Between Tim, Marv and my reports, you can't lose. :)

Love the pictures from your weekend. Glad you enjoyed it. Congratulations to Mark and Happy Birthday to Mark! :goodvibes

Thanks, Tina. I will give Mark your birthday wishes when he gets home (he had to work today).

Ah, congrats to Markie. He seems like a fun guy :) Glad you guys had a fun visit.

Trip news, we have decided to stay at AKV Kidani. Will probably have dinner at Sanaa on the 24th and then swim.. Girls and I really liked it in Dec. What are your Sun plans??

Were u thinking of MNSSHP on tues night??

I feel like we have talked about this-maybe my report. Dang my memory is bad

Hi, Mary. We planned on doing a late lunch/early dinner at Earl of Sandwich on Sunday and doing a little shopping at DTD. What time is your ADR going to be for? We could come back when you guys are ready to swim.

I hadn't even looked at dates for the MNSSHP (are they out already?). If Tuesday is th enight you are doing it, then if you want to old guys hanging with you all night, we'll do it that night too.

Congrats! to Markie for doing such a great job!! Glad to hear you guys had a great visit.

not on the same level; but, Dayne has decided to coach basketball this year (for the local rec team) he is not too old, but because he is not in high school any longer he can not play. (he wanted me to write a letter to the rec and parish contesting their rules--he said it is not right that he did what he is suppose to do and the kids that failed in school and still in high school get to continue until they are 19, he said he IS IN school and should get to play--in a way I think he is right). But, he is coaching 13/14 yr olds and having fun...but wishing he was on the court ;).

Have a great week!

Hi, Connie. Thanks...he is an awesome coach (and it helps that he wrestled for 15 years and had the best coaches in the State of Illinois as his high school coaches).

I always hated that age thing. I know in the high schools here that even if you are held back a year for grades or something, you cannot participate in sports after you reach a certain age.

Good for Dayne coaching at the Rec club; those kids need a coach and I'm sure he'll do great.

Congrats to Markie, looks like he is doing a fantastic job with the team :goodvibes

Thank you, Stefy. He really enjoys it.

Hi, Marv. I have a lot of the video of Mark wrestling (one of these days I want to get it all put on DVD's). I knew I would miss him wrestling...I just didn't know how much. It's weird when it is a part of your life (and a BIG part) for 15 years and then it is all over. But I've been lucky with both boys that they have given back for what they received when they were involved in sports (Andy it was baseball and he coaches at the high school for baseball).

I totally forgot to bring my stadium chair when we went on Saturday. Although I'm not sure it would have helped after the 4-1/2 hour drive. Thankfully, we spent the night at a hotel and didn't decide to drive hom the same day.

Kathy, I enjoyed the pictures of Markie coaching. As others have said, it looks like he's loving it.

Thanks, Glen. He really does love it. His Grandpa always told him he'd be a great coach.

Great Pix of Markie !!! Happy Belated Birthday Mark!!! Sorry don't know how I missed that !!

Thanks, Rosie. And I'll pass your "Happy Birthday" on to Mark when he gets home tonight.

Happy Belated Birthday to Mark!

The pictures of Markie are great. He looks like he is having a blast while doing a great job. You must be so proud:goodvibes

Thank you, Diane. We are very proud. I have to go see if you have an update since my entire weekend was shot and now I have to catch up again.

Sounds like Markie has a bright future ahead of him in coaching, you have every right to be proud!

Thank you, Michelle. He officially told them Saturday night that he accepted the offer to come back next year.

:welcome::welcome:

Thank you so much; and I'm glad you came out of lurkdom.

Wrestling is a sport that you either love or hate. We truly love it. We still go to our son's old high school wrestling duals. There is just something about wrestling that once you are a part of it you always are. We consider Mark's high school coaches family and we spend time with them at wrestling and outside of wrestling. What a great way to spend your birthday...spending time with your dad enjoying something you both enjoyed.

I'm glad you enjoy my reports. The banter on here can brighten anyone's day. We have a bunch of goofs...but I love them all!

I hope you'll stay around. :)

Hey Kathy... great pictures of Markie 'doing his thing'. You can see his passion through the pictures.:goodvibes

I hope Mark had a good birthday. :)

Awww, great pics of Mark! Looks like he really enjoys it! And I don't know if I've mentioned it, but congrats on AKL, I can't wait to finally get to stay there too! (Although now I'm thinking of changing to the BW or YC...ugh!!! Too many changes can happen in 8 months!!!) :rotfl:

Thanks for the welcome!

Great wrestling photos and sounds like a nice day. What an accomplishment for Markie to be so loved and respected at such a young age - good for him and of course for you and Mark!

I am sorry I am late commenting, Kathy, but it looks like you had a wonderful birthday weekend with your son!
Markie seems to enjoy himself being the coach - and I can see him connect with his students!
You must be pretty proud of him and I think you should be, your raised one heck of a son!

Thanks for letting us share a little bit of your life!

Where does Markie coach? Or which direction from you? I'm probably about 4 hours away from you....was just curious whether your were traveling in my general direction to see him.

Our school had wrestling when I was a kid, but by the time I was in high school there were only 3 or 4 guys still participating and it ended by the time I graduated. I think I went to a meet once when I was in grade school. My middle son is a big wrestling fan - but of the WWE variety. ;) I don't think he would understand "real" wrestling if he saw it! :confused3

It's nice to see him getting a good start in a career that he obviously enjoys - and that he has the respect of the administration along with the camaraderie of the team. That has to be a hard balance some times. We had a band director here a few years ago that the kids just loved, but she evidently stepped on the wrong toes and was let go after her 2nd year (my oldest son's sophomore year). Two years later the band was down to less than a dozen kids, and 8 of them were graduating. The following year - no more band. :headache: Four years later still no band. :confused3 It looks like your son has the passion, and the sense of fun, to keep the kids interested and involved.

Thanks, Tim. He is a natural if I do say so myself.

Or whips on the coolie! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

"Whips on the coolie?" What the heck is a coolie?

Or Shower caps !!!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hi, Rosie. You are too funny.

Thanks, Jen. He really does...he knows how to make them work hard, but also have fun.

I am SO excited about AKL. I can't wait.

Thanks for the welcome!

You are welcome, Jen. I have said for over twelve years that the best thing that ever happened to my son was getting him into wrestling (which really started 15 years ago). He has always been my "wild" child and wrestling has taught him all kinds of things and his high school coach was a huge influence in his life.

I am sorry I am late commenting, Kathy, but it looks like you had a wonderful birthday weekend with your son!

Thank you, Karin. Mark had the best birthday...he got a Disney gift card, a SWORD (now he can't nag me at Disney anymore) and he got to be with his youngest son.

Tanya, he coaches at a high school in Dubuque, IA. However, they were at a tournament in Monona, Iowa this past weekend (in the middle of NOWHERE).

It amazes me how many schools are dropping band. And you'd be amazed how many are dropping wrestling. Unfortunately, football and basketball are your big sports; then you have baseball and softball. Personally, I can't stand basketball and was so glad when my oldest son gave it up and concentrated strictly on baseball. Wrestling is the oldest and toughest sport in the world. I could always tell which football players wrestled because they never tired during their drills.

My middle son is in Dubuque today with his Youth group at Sundown Mountain. Thanks to mapquest I see that Dubuque is almost 2 1/2 hours away from here. I also see that you are only about 3 hours and 15 minutes from here - closer than I thought. I always think of the Chicago area as being about 4 hours away. We are usually on a bus trip, or going with friends, so don't go directly from home - that is probably what is adding the extra time. My boys played basketball and football in jr High. They switched to golf in High School - and dabbled slightly in baseball. Well, they all played little league when they were kids, but in high school I think Sean maybe played part of one year (only the second time we ever let him quit a sport - he got overly punished by the coach for missing a practice because he was selected to perform in an Honor Choir that week-end after various other instances of "crummy" treatment that was the final straw and we told Sean he could quit). Mark's talking about playing this year - he played his Freshman year, but not the last two years.....we'll see.....(different coaches there now too)

Well, thanks to your p.m. I realized that you had started your pre-trip report. Now, I gotta go back and read. I can be such a ditz sometimes.
