SSR washer problem tonight

sounds like everything worked out well. As far as the points being bankable or not I think they will be. xplain your situation to MS and go from there. :)

well we just got back from MNSSHP and there was a message from William the manager on our phone. He said that he would credit my room charge $100 for the damaged clothes and that he was going to also credit one nights points back to my dvc account and that they would go into my current use year.

anyone know if these points would be bankable?

I am pleased with the way this turned out.
I'g glad it worked out, the points should be bankable if your banking window is open. Even if not I bet they will if you ask.

This is my rule too. My boyfriend laughs at me. I'm tempted to show him this thread.

I also:

don't turn on the dishwasher and leave the house. (I will turn it on and go to bed.)

don't go outside if I have something cooking on the stove.

don't leave the toaster plugged in (have heard of situations where they mysteriously turn on and start fires)

don't leave the house if the toilet is still filling (my secretary years ago used her upstairs restroom and left for two days, came back to find the toilet had been overflowing for two days and she had $40,000 in water damage in her condo).

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I never leave any small appliance plugged in...EVER! I never trust the dryer timer (my mom's just stopped working one day and it kept on drying). I always set a seperate timer. I have a lot of OCD about leaving stuff plugged in or running. I will not use a slow cooker unless I'm home. I could go on and on.

I learned alot from this thread. I also learned something about myself. I can be rather unfairly cynical. I am relatively new to the boards and have read that personnel from Member services participate. I would do the same thing if it were my business. What an effective way to see what your customer is concerned about and interested in! It is also an opportunity to get involved in the conversation and try to diffuse a situatiion or controld the direction of discussion.
This story of the broken washer and two members who had problems with it is very powerful. Isn't it great that this board exists and makes us all neighbors?

Now the unfair cynic issue. My initial reaction when anyone was trying to limit someones expectation was to wonder if that individual was actually from member services. For that I apologize, I tend to try to play the devil's advocate too.

From now on I will not leave the house until the toilet is full, the washer is finished and all cycles are finished on the dish washer.

I can testify to this one. We flooded our house this way. DD flushed and we were in bed. Fortunately, insurance covered the mess.

Well we are home and I checked the dvcmember website and don't see that I've been credited any points.....how long do you think this will take?

We were on vacation with friends in AZ during spring training when their son called to tell them he had stopped over at their house and their water line to the chilled water and ice maker had broken between kitchen floor and subfloor. Kitchen floor was extremely soft-so he and his BIL moved the refrigerator and kitchen stove for them just in case the floor would collapse and family room in basement had several inches of water also. I told my GF that that was rather sneaky way to get her kitchen remodelled. Had 50k of damages but could have been worse if son hadn't stopped to feed the fish and check house.

I just replaced our refrigerator last year and salesman couldn't understand why I didn't want the chilled water dispenser and all the other bells. My other GF had her dishwasher catch on fire while she was home. I NEVER leave anything plugged in nor do I EVER leave with DW, washer or dryer running.

Glad to learn OP that DVC has credited you with some points but sorry that the maintenance was taken care of when first reported.

One other thing to consider, if there is damage to the DVC unit (i.e., carpeting has to be replaced, for example) then under the circumstances that cost from my perspective should not be charged to DVC owners but should be payable by Disney because of its employees' negligence in not getting the problem corrected.

I don't leave the house with washer, dryer, or diswasher running either and I too make sure all small appliances are unplugged. When we leave on a vacation the last thing DH does before we leave is go down to the basement to turn off the water to the house. We know too many people who have had floods or fires from things running. DD is tired of me asking her every morning if she turned off and unplugged the curling iron or hair straightener, whichever one she used that day. My sister had a friend that had her hairdryer start a fire an hour after she had finished using it so I never leave the hair dryer plugged in either. Better safe than sorry :goodvibes

I am surprised you were able to get such a positive response.

It is very good to hear about positive outcomes when less than desirable situations develop. at a DVC. It seems like we hear too much of the other end of the spectrum.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy the rest of your stay.:thumbsup2

I just want to stress what you pointed out in your first line. I hope everyone thinks twice before leaving a washer / drier or dishwasher running when they leave a house or unit. I've known two families who's homes were burned down by faulty dishwashers. Granted by not being their their lives were saved, but if they were there they may have been able to save their homes.
