SSR spa new policy !!! UPDATE Post # 60 - page 4

For those of you that are shocked that people use the SPA facility after using the fitness center, have you ever actually seen the "changing room under the stairs"? Trust me, it by no means compares to the locker room facilities in any deluxe or even moderate I've ever stayed in. I'm actually "shocked" that anyone would assume the SPA facility is not connected to the workout facilty.

Any idea if this fee applies to SSR resort guests as well?

I didn't think to ask that question, just assumed that the fee was for everyone. It really is very disappointing. I was willing to pay something but the $12.50 daily fee just isn't worth it. If they made it more reasonable, maybe they would actually make some money on it. Having us use the facilities really doesn't cost them much...a little shampoo, water, towels etc. The facilities are already there and they run the steam room, jacuzzi etc anyway. It has always been empty when I used it. Maybe they could even consider certain times of the day when the spa treatments are not busy to let us in at a cheaper rate.

Unfortunately the fee was accompanied by somewhat rude and dismissive attitutude from the spa staff (whom I have always found very pleasant before) so there must be more that just me that are upset.

I'm pretty sure the fees are for everyone. The onsite spas and salons lease the facilities, and I'm sure they aren't cheap.

If the spa is going to charge to use the locker room, then they need to pay for laundering their own towels instead of using the resort laundry room just across the way. I was using that laundry room once (we were in a studio for a few days) and the spa staff kept coming into the laundry room with dirty towels and to take them out of the dryer.

I don't know about SSR, but the hair salons, owned by the same company, evidently contract with Disney for their towels, as housekeeping delivered a large cart full to the salons.

I was extremely disappointed at the decision to not allow free access to the locker rooms for resort guests. I have raised my concerns with MS and was told it was out of their control - somebody else operates the spa - well, I'm sorry, as far as I'm concerned, if it's got Disney's name on it, it's a Disney product.
I was told to use the ground floor facilities. So, last week I went to check it out. It's a disabled shower & toilet facility with two urinals. They've put some lockers and towels in there (right next to the urinals!!!) and there isn't even a bench!!! OUTRAGEOUS
It also highlights the question whether or not able bodies people should be using disables facilities.
I shall be writing MS asap; I suggest you do the same!

Philip

Member Services is correct, it is not a DVC facility. All of the services at the resorts are either Disney operated or privately contracted, either way they are not under direct DVC/DVD control.

None of the spas or hair salons are Disney operated, they are leased areas, except for Bibbidy Bobbidy Boutiques and the Harmony House Barber shop in the MK. If you leased space for a business, should you be forced to grant access to your facilities for free, and still pay a pretty penny to lease them?

You should take pictures and send them in also.

I dont think the Spa should be forced to let us use their facility and they are correct to assess a charge for its use, although I think the $12 is a little high considering I've been to much nicer facilities that charge only $15 such as DCL rainforest room and spas in Vegas.

But DVC should take the responsibility and build a proper locker room for the members as they have done with all the other resorts. That was their oversight in the construction of SSR and should come out of the Developer's pocket.
OKW has a small locker area also, so it doesnt have to be fantabulous, just adequate to meet the needs of the membership.

That is the solution...rehab the free changing rooms, and possibly expand them a little. Preferably at DVD expense, but it shouldn't cost a whole lot even if SSR owners had to pay the tab.

Do the other resorts have locker rooms to change at the pools? OKW just has a bathroom with a shower and a bench.

In 2008 my gf and I stayed at SSR. (DVC members since 1994). Loved it. I couldn't say enough good about the spa. I started my mornings with a workout and use of ALL the facilities. I also ended each day with a jog followed by a shower and use of the facilities at the SSR spa. It was wonderful. Yes, fitness is my idea of a vacation. Upon returning in 2009 we were shocked when we were told that we could not use the spa facilities aside from the fitness room. My plans of starting and ending my vacation days at the spa were ruined. The manager was terribly rude. She explained that the policy had changed. We were devastated. We were so upset we decided to have our vacation massages at the Grand Floridian instead. At the GF I explained our experience and disappointment. The young women at the GF were very polite and surprised to hear about such a policy. (Both spas are run by NIKKI BRYAN). They informed me that I could use all of the facilities at the GF. Now we were just confused. I want to feel comfortable on my vacation. I don't want to worry about using a facility I'm not supposed to. I sent an email to DVC satisfaction but never received a reply. It is my understanding from other members that full use of the SSR spa requires a $12.50 payment per day. Okay, I understand it's hard to have a spa experience if the spa is over run with guests. I don't mind the $12.50 per day but let's get that information out in open and up front. When I book my DVC vacation, especially at SSR, I should be asked, "Would you like to add full spa facilities use for $12.50 per day?" Well, that's my two cents... for what it's worth.

This is a thread from over a year old so I am going to close it here. Thanks all..
