What building is closest to main pool and Artist Palette? And what building is the closest to get to DTD?

Also, I read that the main pool has a natural looking bottom, rather than the usual blue? It didn't look this way on the Disney site.

If you want to be close to the main pool, request a room in "The Springs." If you want to be close to Downtown Disney, request a room in "Congress Park."

Regarding the pool, yeah, I think the bottom is painted beige rather than blue.

May I also ask where the Artist's Pallette/market and gift shops are in relation to the Springs and Congress Park?

Here's a great map of the resort:

Artist's Palette, the pool, gift shop, spa, fitness center, and Carriage House (check-in) are all grouped together in the lower-mid part section of the map. The Springs is right across the street--the three buildings numbered 14. Congress Park is the four buildings numbered 16.

Depending on the building, it takes about 5-8 minutes to walk to the main pool from Congress Park. There is also a "Quiet Pool" right in CP with a gorgeous view of Downtown Disney.

Both "neighborhoods" have their own bus stops, so it will take you no more than a minute or two to get to a bus stop no matter where your room might be. And, if you don't want to walk from Congress Park to the main pool, just jump on any bus and it will drop you right outside of the pool complex.

EDIT: Given my choice, I'd probably go with a Congress Park room over The Springs for the better view and to be a little closer to DTD. We tend to only swim once or twice per trip, so walking to the pool isn't a big deal. YMMV.

Here are some photos of the High Rock Springs Pool at SSR.

As tjkraz noted, Artist's Palette, the Spa and the store are located right behind the pool. EVen when completed, none of the first twelve buildings will be very far from the pool. Probably no farther than about 400 yards and will have access by bus or by walking on the sidewalks and bridgewalk to the area.

The three buildings that make up The Springs will be the closest (across the street) from the pool, but the others won't be much farther. The buildings still to be started (due to open in 2007) will be a little farther, but still within about 600 yards (est) and will also have access by bus, if desired.
