SSR Owner - Reservation Frustrations (LONG)

We signed on Sept. 24th and we have unit 1Q but you'd think if it was chronological order, ours would have been earlier than F since Doug signed a month later. No clue what the letter means.

We don't plan to go "home" until November 04 so we probably would have been ok regardless. I guess we are lucky.

I believe Dean's comments are right on. We have a June use year so being in building 1 does make some sence. Still, it seems those who buy first should be able to book first.

Dean posted at the same time as I did above. What you said makes sense about someone buying later may get the unit of someone who's sale did not go thru and therefore a lower number/letter combination. However, my use year is Feb and Doug's is June and we are in the same unit - 1. So, it does not seem to depend on use year, at least in our cases.

Just curious, people who are in buildings 2 and 3, when did you buy? Our agreement is recent, October 15, and we are in unit 1F. Is there any significance to the letter?

I just signed separate contracts both with June UY. One is in building 3 and the other in building 10. I don't think time has anything to do with it because both contracts are dated the same.

I purchased in August with a Dec. use year - I'm 1-M.

On 10/21 I started a new thread with SSR update info. In that post I said that SSR was opening 5/17 but people purchasing as of now are being given a 6/1 availability date. My guide did say that it mattered when you bought but that I had bought early enough to be in the 5/17 group. My post was primarily about the $10 discount going to $5 on Nov. 1. I think I had about 18 replies but no one had any questions or comments about the availability date based on when you bought.

It was always made VERY clear to me that I could not call for ANY reservations until 12/1. My guide, Byron, has been around for quite awhile and is very knowledgeable.

I was hoping for a May 1 opening date as I do not want to be part of summer heat and crowds. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get away until after the November election (I'm VERY active as a volunteer) so I may end up banking all of my points for the first year.

... Simply because I have no interest in adding on. But this "buying a building" concept caught my attention. OKW is the only resort similar to SSR with it's multiple builds. I purchased at OKW in '97 and honestly don't recall buying into any particular building. I'm not about to go digging thru my mega-heepa-pila filing system to see for myself so I'll ask anyne here who knows: Did OKW owner buy a particular building ? For some reason I don't think my contract is worded that way.

Now, back to SSR: This may sound like a dumb question, but from what I'm reading here it almost sounds like if you bought at building 1 you'll always be staying at 1. Is that totally wrong ??? I hope so.

If you have a Dec use year at SSR, do you get your first points on 12/04? So if you want to use points before then, you have to borrow from 12/04 points. Right?

All DVC owners will find their contracts expressed as a % (small) of a specific unit. For OKW and apparently SSR a unit is a specific building. My initial purchase was in 1993 and I bought part of building 26 (I've stayed there once in 10 years). One of our resales is for .2955% of building 15 (stayed there once also). The building you own has nothing to do with where your reservation will be located.

If you have a Dec use year at SSR, do you get your first points on 12/04? So if you want to use points before then, you have to borrow from 12/04 points. Right?

The eariest Use Year at SSR is December. Those with that Use Year will get their first points on December 1, 2003. No need to borrow.

Enjoy!

I purchased a Dec use year in August and my building is listed as unit 1J. Not sure exactly what the letter means??? Oh well I am looking at an August vacation or banking for 05.

I think this is starting to make some sense now.

1. Booking Date - DVC has said all along that SSR owners can begin making reservations on 12/1. What I don't believe they ever stated was the date on which those owners may begin their stays at SSR or another DVC resort. That information has remained up-in-the-air pending an official opening date announcement.

2. As DrTomorrow said, the Product Understanding Checklist makes it clear that you cannot utilize DVC until your building is ready for occupancy. The Purchase Agreement lists the estimated occupancy date. Initial PAs displayed the 5/1/04 estimated occupancy date, which has since been unofficially changed to 5/17/04.

I suspect current Purchase Agreements being issued reflect the 6/1/04 estimated opening date for Building 2.

I'm not sure how this fits into the building numbers noted on the contracts themselves. If pirateparrot has a contract with Building 10, clearly that doesn't mean he owns part of a structure that won't exist for another 18-24 months.

well I must have a roommate jazzmanmgt...We also purchased in August with Dec. use year and are listed in building 1J, that could get pretty crowded! LOL!

It appears a unit at SSR resort is a section of rooms, just like at all but HH and OKW. In this case they are designated by a building number and a letter. I don't think they'd be selling building 10 yet, wonder if it's 1-O(letter) instead even though most tings that use this type of designation skip O. They would not be able to sell building 10 yet as it won't be open for years, assuming they're going in order.

Dean - I suspect you are right on the 1-O (letter) theory. Since building 10 is most likely in the "proposed" stage of the resort, it would make sense that they are not selling any part of that building yet.

It was stated to me by our guide that we could book anytime (7 months out) at the other DVC resorts provided that our stay was after SSR opens. We were told the date is June 1st.

Interesting that I seem to be the only one in building 3 so far (and the estimated opening date on my paperwork says June 1st).

You may begin to make reservations at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort on December 1, 2003 (or at other DVC Resorts as soon as you purchase) for stays beginning on or after your unit is available for occupancy.

SO, does this mean that I do not have to wait until December 1st, 2003 to make a reservation for BC for after May 17th since we purchased Unit1M in early September with a December use year?

Edited to add unit number

CRSNDSNY - if your unit is 1M (the number was missing from your post), then according to what I've read and been told, you should be able to make a BCV reservation (dates starting after May 17th but within the 7 month window) now.

I know someone here posted about having made a reservation already (Lucy Lou?). I'll try to find the post. I replied to hers as well (curious about her unit #)...but it was buried and my reply was kind of off topic, so it didn't take off like this one did.

Here's Lucy's post: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=459495

I am in building 1-M and was explicitly told that I CANNOT make any reservations before 12/1.

Yes. I was told the same thing by my guide. But what does the "or at other DVC Resorts as soon as you purchase" mean?

Hi Katie (kweaver),

Thanks for posting this up. I just checked my contract and guess what I'm also in 3A!!!!!!

I bought on October 18th and have an estimated occupancy date of June 1 too with use year of Feb.

I never ever thought I would get to say hello to a fellow unit owner!!!!!

I'm hoping to go on June 1st to 10th, so I'm desperately hoping now that I won't have to bank our points till 2005.

We come down from Dublin, Ireland, so once a year for 10 nights is it. Now I now you could say to move the dates but at the moment we're really set on these.

Thanks
Barry

barryb,

Welcome to the DIS and the DVC Forum!

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out; I'd advise calling Dec. 1 and seeing the MS can do for you.

If they really do enforce the "Unit Number == When your stay can start" rules, I bet that MS is going to have some fun December 1; "What do you mean, I can't start my stay until July because I'm in Unit 2? No one told me anything about Units - you open May 17, that's when I want to stay!"

We bought the first Monday of October, got paperwork by Thursday that week, letter of financing approval the next Thursday. We are in unit 2B. I don't see how LucyLou (sp?) got to make her reservation already (at BCV) if she just bought into SSR. No one can make a ressie until 12/1...
