SSR is growing on me

After the replies I got on my thread about which DVC is toughest to book at 7 months and the fact that I feel certain we'll want to stay at all of the DVCs so home property advantage probably won't end up being worth the extra price, then the idea buying at the most economical location is starting to appeal to me. Between OKW and SSR, SSR is definitely more appealing to me. I live close enough to the beach that OKW doesn't really offer anything I can't get locally but the colors at SSR are so soothing and I love the look of the pool (been looking at a lot of pictures) and the longer contract. Hmm....I think I may try to rent points for my solo trip at the end of the month and go check out SSR (since my crazy idea of hoping for an Epcot resort this late in the game probably won't pan out anyway!).

Thanks everyone for your helpfulness. DVC folks sure are friendly! :-)

All reasons why we bought an SSR resale contract this spring. We love the THV because we have 6 in our family. That being said, if you have your heart set on an Epcot resort, BWV resales have really come down in price, although their dues are more. Make sure to look at them. The contract is shorter, but you would have 11 month booking window and their standard rooms are a goodmvalue for the points. I'm always looking at resale contracts just in case one I can't pass up comes around. Oh, and we've never stayed at SSR, but really liked it when we took our DVC tour in February. Can't wait for our first trip home in March.:goodvibes

SSR is growing on me too. We are considering adding on a resale here soon.

We've stayed at SSR twice. Once in January 2009 and then this past November. It didn't make that much of an impression on the first trip, but this last time, we were in the building closest to Downtown Disney in Congress Park and we just fell in love with the place. We're in the process of buying an SSR resale contract and will be thrilled to stay there on all our future trips, although we will try for BCV or BWV for our trip next December. But if that doesn't pan out - no problem. SSR is a beautiful resort away from the hustle-bustle. We loved walking to DTD every morning and just sitting on the balcony watching the boats pass by. I think it's a great DVC value!

We were BW all the way until our last two stays at SSR. We love the location and the serenity of the setting, clossoe to so much!

It grew on me the first time we stayed there and it is still our first choice. In fact, the only time we've used our points anywhere but there (our home resort) was when we used points for a stay the Grand Californian a couple of years ago.

We'll probably check out the others at some point (we stayed at OKW and WL prior to purchasing), but we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our SSR!

As SSR is maturing it is growing on me as well. I personally consider it the most breathtaking and most beautiful DVC resort on WDW property.

Hyperion Wharf (once completed) will help make it more of a destination resort.

:surfweb: We just love our Home away from home (SSR Resort), it has so much to offer as the others do as well, but with SSR you have Downtown Disney, walk, boat ride, or bus ride away, it's peaceful and the overall atmosphere is breathtaking, we fell in love  with it the first time we saw it on our DVC Tour and knew that's where we wanted our Home to be, and that was back in 2004, they've added alot since then the THV, and now the New Pool YAY!!! The Spa is to die for, they offer alot for all ages at SSR as well. Over the years we have stayed at many of Disney Resorts and keep coming back Home to SSR! Our children really like it there too, and one day it will be there's! :cloud9: Best of luck in your decision! :dance3: Have a Magical Day!

Just wanted to give an update. I was able to find a DVC member who was kind enough to rent points to me and I now have a reservation at SSR! I'll be there in 25 days!

YAY!!! It seems there are so many negative comments about SSR on here...it's nice to hear it's growing on you. Of course I'm a little biased since it's our home resort too. But we just love it there! :goodvibes

We SSR lovers do want to keep it a secret! Don't mention that the home resort privilege is crucial to booking 1 of the thirty declared Tree House Villas. Don't mention how SSR has areas as different in appeal as Congress Park with the lakefront view and the Grandstand, with its toddler-friendly pool. Keep quiet about how SSR is just a mile or two away from Winn-Dixie and (my fave) Chick-fil-A. (Yes, I know it's magical on property -- but it helps when you can save a penny or three on a meal paying just normal Orlando prices.) And don't say any more about Hyperion Wharf; the resale prices will start to match BLT!:scared1:

OK, it can't really compete with seeing Wishes from your balcony, but SSR is an enjoyable (and affordable :cool1:) place to experience the magic. And, honestly, it's large enough that we really don't have to keep it a secret. Unlike BCV or WLV, there's plenty of room!

Glad to hear you were able to book SSR. Have a great time and let us know how your stay was.:goodvibes

Yes, SSR is a beautiful resort and is becoming more so as it matures. And the new pool will be great! I also would love to stay in a THV some day.

For me, SSR is too much like home. I've lived all my life in upstate NY so want to get away to some place that looks a bit different.

But we do love it there - especially SSR's location - right near DD. We go to DD almost every night.

Everyone thinks of SSR as a last resort when booking DVC. We like it. Yes it is very large and is far from the parks but it also has some benefits. If your health conscious and enjoy exercising there is nothing like getting up early and going for a walk on the property. It also has the best exercise facility on the property. We love the relaxing feel.

Bottom line is you can't lose here, even if it is your last resort.

Our home resort is BLT but at the last minute we needed to cancel our Thanksgiving reservation that we had made with borrowed points that we then needed to use and the only resort where we could get a week in December was SSR. Other then the sub-freezing weather, we loved our dedicated 2-BR at the Paddock. It was an easy walk to DTD and we felt like we had the building to ourselves. And it really is an easy enough walk to the main building. Also, though we had to cancel our golf reservation, one of the golf courses is right there at SSR. I think a couple of other areas are requested more often, but I would have no problem staying at the Paddock again. Plus, we got to stay a couple more days at SSR than the time we had originally booked over the Thanksgiving holiday at BLT. :)

SSR is the best!

We own at WLV and SSR. I really like both but SSR is really growing on me. Nice and quiet, good transportation options and a great main pool. The property is immaculate and bright with differing themes between the different buildings.

When we first bought at SSR and made a couple of trips and I have to admit that SSR was my last choice I have been completely happy with it. Now, when booking, SSR is usually towards the top of our list.

Heading to SSR for a three night Presidents Day trip. See you there!
