SSR Bed Envy

We're in the middle of our first stay at SSR, three nights in a studio after getting off the DCL 10 day cruise. We usually stay at our home resorts, OKW or BCV.

The common areas here are gorgeous, but yes the parking lots and hallways do feel like an apartment complex. The room, however, is very nice. It's roomier than our usual BCV studio, and the beds are so much more comfy! I've seen mention of the special pull out beds, but was also pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the pillow top mattress on the queen bed. I cannot overstate how much we hate the queen mattress at BCV. So why don't we have the same beds?

Is this some sort of add-on incentive they don't advertise? "Come to SSR, you'll sleep better!"

We were there in early Dec. and I would have to agree the beds at SSR are the best. The sofa sleeper is great too. They are diferent than anything I have ever seen. Does anyone know what brand they are, I wouldn't mind having one of these at home. Having said the beds are the best, I would also say that SSR is probably my least favorit resort, similar to OKW in that everything is to spead out. It is a hike to get something to eat or to swim.

Stayed at SSR several times and agree the beds including the pullout sofa are great. Regarding how spread out everything is, I do agee, but I love the walking as it keeps me in shape with all the junk I eat while in WDW.

I think the beds are Stearns and Foster.

Writing from SSR --the beds are Sealy Posturepedic 700 Plush; and my yes they are comfy.

The beds at Saratoga are really wonderful. I'm so glad some asked what type of beds were at SSR. We are looking into replacing our bed at home and this is at the top of our list as a replacement bed. Does any one have a Sealy at home and wish to share on the pros and cons of this bed?

The beds at SSR are great, but I really disliked the pillows! Much too hard for my taste.....

We have an exceptional mattress at home also and just returned from BCV's...The beds are just downright deployable. We called for an egg crate but they only had full size ones so one of us was going to suffer ( guess which one of us it was.. ) We put two vellux blankets on top of the bed, then the egg crate and we still found it virtually impossible to sleep at night.

I will be writting another letter to guest satisfaction on the matter this week. I wrote one in August when we returned from our last trip but its obvious nothing has been done to change the situation.

I'm jealous those at SSR have fine bedding and do not believe that BCV guests should have to put up with such substandard bedding.

I have to agree that the beds at SSR are waaaaaaay better than the beds at BCV. I have a bad back & was in agony on our first night at BCV; I ended up sleeping in the chair in the master bedroom with my feet up on the bed!

At SSR, I slept in the bed all 9 nights we were there & was actually able to stand up in the morning. MS needs to get on the stick with BCV!!!

Hmmmm....what sold me on our last apartment was that the complex made me think of DVC...LOL. We still had our same old bed....but its a Sealy!

Honestly though...I can't say that makes me want to stay at SSR! What I loved when we visited is the giant window in the GV. Not that we'll ever get to stay in a GV.

I just returned from a stay at SSR, and decided that it was the right place to stay this December, but not the place I will want to stay in the future.
I loved the lack of people, but know that it will be more crowded in the future. I liked buses that were never very full, yet still ran frequently enough. I liked not having to wait in line to buy food and other items. I liked there being lots of room around the pool (even on the few days that didn't rain and were not freezing cold).

I liked the beds. I suspect that the other resorts will eventually be upgraded to have similar beds.
I didn't find the pull-out bed to be as comfortable as I had expected, based on what I had read. It was fine, and much better then those I had slept on in the past, but not as comfortable as I had imagined based on reading other posts. Expectations can really change my perception.
I did sleep on one (I let my guests have all the real beds), and I can say that I never woke up with a sore back. However, I thought the mattress was rather thin, causing the surface to feel harder then I had expected.
I kept wishing that when I gave my 16 year old niece the "real" bed, and she said "you don't have to do that", that I had then taken the real bed for myself.

I wonder if all the new resorts (including the Pop Century) have new pillow-top mattresses. I wonder if that is to become the new standard, as resorts get upgraded.

Do some resorts really allow one to request an "egg crate" type of thing to put on top of the mattress?
I have never heard of that being done before.

I loved the beds at SSR. I had the best sleep there in a while, even considering some stressful circumstances I was under. The sleeper sofa is extremely comfortable as well--even more so, to me. I consider my sleep comfort to be extremely important. You spend 1/3 of your life in bed so it should be good. I know others that feel this way, too. My sister, in particular, loves to sleep in hotels for no other reason than the comfort of some of the beds...for example, the heavenly bed at Westins.

Too bad we can't call Sealy and request a group DVC discount. I'm tired of buying mattresses that I'm not comfortable sleeping on too.

"They could set fireworks off outside and you'd still get a good night's sleep at SSR!"
