Squirrels, Ducks and Coconut Butts!!! A Wish Trip Report *LATEST UPDATE 05/2011**

Heather explored the neighborhood on her own while we changed and met us down by the river where we were meeting Britt. The photoshoot was mainly of Phoebe but Britt took lots of family shots and couldn't resist capturing Tessa's spirit many times as well. She was so flexible with our vacation schedule and when the day that worked best for us ended up being a day that she had to bring her daughter I told her it didn't bother me a bit if she felt she could get the job done without distraction (something I KNOW I could not do!). She brought 4 yr old Annika who provided entertainment for Tessa whenever she was not needed for a picture. Heather was helpful and kept an eye on those two also. Here is Britt's post about our shoot and her perspective of what happened. I love the family pose and the two big smiles of the girls are my faves of them. Here are a few more that I loved. This first one would be the perfect shot if only Tessa had been cooperating at that moment.

Tessa was cracking me (and Britt) up because she posed however I told her. I felt like we were on a magazine shoot. "Give me pouty! Give me big smiles! Little smiles! Silly face!" Phoebe was in a great mood and did well also. I'm so happy with them and so grateful to Britt for taking the time to do them!

I didn't want Heather to feel left out (and who doesn't need a new Facebook thumbnail, right?) so I took a few of her on our way back to the hotel.

I guess Tessa hadn't gotten tired of posing yet.

In a flash she was gone again, chasing squirrels.

Tim made a beeline for the hotel with Phoebe, while Heather, Tessa and I took our time exploring the little park along Bay st. There were several war memorials and we read a couple of them.

When we were all together at the hotel again we got in the van and headed to Forsyth Park. It's the biggest one of the squares and we weren't confident in our (or rather, the kids) walking skills to hoof it there. We immediately saw lots of people hanging out or playing ball, riding bikes, having a picnic. It was very busy for a Wednesday evening. Tessa chased some bubbles Tim made.

There were chalk drawings on the sidewalk.

A HUGE memorial (this town is ALL about memorials!).

Tim and Tessa stayed to play at a playground while the three of us explored more on foot. We stopped to talk to a cute policeman for Heather (we headed toward him with "a question" before we saw the ring on his finger, but he was nice to talk to anyhow). After a bit we turned around and met up with Tim and Tessa, who was having fun with a new friend at the playground.

The darker it got, the scarier the park became as the families disappeared and the teens and young adults got rowdier and more forward. We decided it was definitely time to leave. No one was especially hungry on the way home, and Tim and I were going out for our date night tonight, but I thought we should stop at Subway and get something for the girls. They both had a few bites, so I guess that lunch really filled everyone up! Heather hung out in the hotel bar chatting with people while we put the girls to bed. Once they were out, we texted her that we were ready and she came up to have a quiet night "alone" in our room. Tim and I headed out but since it was almost ten we called a couple of places and they said they were done serving food at ten. We were disappointed because a couple of the places looked good. We ended up in some divey bar, the only people eating food at 10pm, listening to a horrible cover "band". It was actually a guy playing guitar and a lady singing. The food was okay but the music was lousy so we left asap. We wandered up and down River St just like Heather and I had. When we came across the bar Heather and I had gone to we could smell "that smell" from the street. I don't know how we missed it the night before. There were people inside again, so I guess some nights it depends on which way the wind blows? Well, basically we ended up back at the first place with the lousy music. It was pretty packed for a Weds and the people were having fun so we hung out for a while.

When we got back to our hotel room we thought it was funny that Tessa was horizontal across the bed with Heather. I tried to get a pic of it but she shifted when I turned the camera on.

Phoebe loved having our bed to herself, but we moved her over to the roll away next to us. We slept much better that way, and as often as she ends up in our bed at home we've talked about doing this in our own bedroom. Just make one big bed from wall to wall!

I love the Savannah updates. It is such a beautiful city. The Littlest Hero photos really capture the girls' personalities. My daughter has the same pjs as Phoebe in the last photo! :wizard:

Wow! Great update. Love all the pics. I am going now to view the link you posted.

I love those silky pjs! For some reason I have lots of pics of her in those and people always comment on how cute they are. :cutie:

She did a great job! Hope you liked her faves.

Well, we're off to CA in the morning! Lots of family gatherings and a couple of family portraits being thrown together at the last minute. I love how nobody wants to plan ahead but when they do want to start they want me to just do it. :sad2: I hope everyone gets caught up while I'm gone because there's not much left of this TR. I can add a few pages by sharing this CA trip, I'm sure. :rotfl: See you next week!

Have a great time in California!!!

How strange about the smell in the clothes! Lunch looks and sounds delicious at Lady and Sons!!! Yum! The photo shoot pictures are awesome -- Tessa is so funny posing however you told her to! Savannah is so pretty! I never get tired of looking at pictures of it!

Hi!
I've been reading your TR, I'm still starting, first day at Sea World. I thought I'd let you know I am so I wouldn't feel like a lurker :lmao:
Phoebe and Tessa are both so adorable! Really, really pretty girls!
Phoebe must have had a great time :)
I just read the part when you went on the Atlantis ride, oh my haha that thing is scary..but I'm terrified of big drops. I almost die when I rode it
Anyway, great TR, fun to read and cute! <3

WOW a buffet for $14? You weren't in WDW anymore! :rotfl2::rotfl2:

Great food pics! I never take pics of my buffet plates, they look horrible! ;)

I LOVE :lovestruc the pics of you guys that Britt took. They are awesome!

More monuments huh? :surfweb:

Sorry your night out wasn't much of a night... but I'm glad you were able to get out for a while!:goodvibes

Your family pictures and the girls solo pics are absolutely beautiful! What a wonderful project Inspiration through Art is!:goodvibes

Hope you all have an incredible time in California!

We returned from CA on Thursday night but it's been so crazy! We sent the kids to school on Friday while we unpacked the van and restocked the kitchen, had Tessa's first soccer game on Saturday and then spent the rest of the day apple picking (my fave fall tradition). I also had to babysit over the weekend. Sunday morning our 14 yr old dog started bleeding. She's had a couple of problems recently and we thought it was a bladder infection but this time was different. So today I took her to the vet and he thinks it's a tumor. We might get confirmation tomorrow, but we might not. Either way we have to decide if her life is "worth living". She's quite old so it's inevitable and going to be soon no matter what. Lately she has been having trouble with her hind legs, so no more climbing or jumping, and at times even walking seems difficult. She also has whittled down to 37 pounds, when at her prime she was around 60. I think we will try to spoil her this week and then my husband will have to be the one to take her to her final appt. I had to take our other dog by myself when he was training out of state. It was horrible. This dog and our last one were my "fur babies" when I didn't have any human babies to love. They have both been members of our family, not just pets. Tim and Tessa both talk about another dog (have been for months) but I just need a break. Puppies are cute but eventually it all comes back down to this in the end. I hate to be a downer but I just wanted to explain why I might not be able to update this week. Plus I've got a neuro appt for Phoebe, more babysitting and the latest wedding pics that need to be edited. But I promise to add something soon!

Welcome home! So sorry to hear about your dog! Our oldest is thirteen, and you can tell he is slowing down a lot. Big hugs for you!

So sorry to hear about your fur baby. We lost our 15 year old collie almost a year ago and I still tear up when I think of her. Take the time you need and we'll be waiting to hear about the trip when you're ready!

I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. :grouphug: I have enjoyed following your tr. Your pictures are amazing. I love your littlest hero's pictures too.

Dallas was with us for almost 13 years (she was already full grown when we adopted her from the shelter so maybe 14 yrs old). She was one of my fur babies when life wasn't cooperating with my plans for the human kind. ;) Tessa is taking it well and keeps asking for a cat now. Phoebe doesn't seem to notice, which is okay. I'd be miserable if she were sad. Tim asked if we could eat dinner in the family room for a while because the dining room looks into the backyard, where she spent more and more time as she declined in health. She was always an indoor dog, but the final health problem was constant urination and then blood in her urine. I tried to spoil her that last week but she didn't even have the energy for a nice walk. She did appreciate some extra treats though. We all miss her and are so glad she was such a wonderful part of our family for so long.

Last day...
DSCN1082a.jpg

So thanks for understanding my time off. It was hard just to have the extra appointments and clean up (I had to customize pull ups for her in the final days). On top of the usual chaos of the family, soccer, schoolwork, and I had a last minute request to do a newborn shoot. I still haven't finished editing the wedding from a few weeks ago! So assuming I can get that done in the next couple of days, I will be free to play on here once again. :cheer2: I was gone so long that as I caught up on some of the others' TRs I read DHS and thought it stood for Dept. of Homeland Security. :rotfl2:

So my question to you is: Would you like to hear about our little trip to Disneyland before I finish the TR? Or should I add that on at the end? Either way this thing is certainly getting close to over! :rolleyes1

Melissa,

I'm so sorry to hear about Dallas. He really sounds like he was truly a part of your family, and one of your "babies."

And sorry to be MIA for so long. I WILL try to catch up with your TR -- the pics looks so gorgeous! (Love the photo shoot of the girls -- they are so beautiful, and with such spirit). Pls. let me know how the next neuro appt goes with Phoebe.

I have just been overwhelmed recently -- it's a wonder my girls ever make it to school, and anyone gets fed. My 10 year old is consuming all of my attention, angst, etc (she's falling apart). But I will try to be better about staying in touch.

Best,

Ann

I'm sorry to hear of your loss
Thank you for sharing the pictures, they are beautiful!

Looking forward to hearing about your Disneyland visit. Add it wherever you chose :)

HI Melissa!! It's understandable you are in and out- and out more. You've had a lot going on, and losing a pet takes a lot of emotional work. So sorry to hear you lost your sweet friend.

As for the Anaheim trip- I'd say after- just to keep the continuity going with Phoebe's trip. But do what you think is most fun and can handle! that's most important.

Thanks everyone, for your patience! I can't believe we went on our trip almost 6 months ago! I'm finishing up my Sept wedding and just shot a new one last night (gosh, New Yorkers are friendly after a few drinks!) and then with holiday portraits coming up fast and furious I've decided I can't wait any longer. I just need to wrap this up. The next couple of updates are shorter ones anyway, but I always feel guilty if I update my TR without catching up on all of yours. Well, plugging right along...here is the second to last day of our trip.
