Springtime Surprise 2026 (Apr 16-20)

<sigh>. SS will again align with my spring airshow trip to Fla, and the 10-miler is still open, but the theme and characters don't do anything for me. I haven't even seen the movie they are from.
I may have to "settle" for "just" MW in January.
I just snort-laughed on my couch at the bolded part remembering all of the Disney Junior characters during the latter stages of the marathon back in 2024 and how you didn't know who any of them were.

I would say "my time has come," but a bunch of those characters were from WAY before my kid was born. They really need to update their Disney Jr roster! (Sadly, they can't use Spidey or his Amazing Friends.)

Spidey would be great!

I’m just holding out hope that they so Star Wars for SS27 to celebrate the 50th. That would get me to register for my first SS.

I'm in for my first ever runDisney race, the 10 Miler! I am very envious of the Pooh & Tigger theming though...
Welcome to your new obsession!

No problem! Sign up, then watch the movie, and you will know who they are!!🤣

Thank you! I told my husband that I already know I'm going to try and sign up for a half marathon in 2027 (or maybe fall 2026, depending how training goes!!) I'm already so pleased with the Runna app and how I truly don't hate running for the first time everrr

Would I be crazy to wear one of these for the 10k? I know how warm it could be, but I'm so tempted! I figure I'll be done running by 6am so the heat shouldn't be too awful yet, and no sun either.

I wouldn't count on it, even at 5am. It is often in the 70s with high dew points overnight, and these things do NOT breathe. This would be horribly uncomfortable imho.

YES!! 100% YES!!!! You would be hating life.

Looking at my Garmin data for the two years that I've done the challenge, the low at the start was 66 and the high was 72. And the humidity is insane. It's like a warm wet blanket around you and you feel like you need gills to breathe. I know the costumes are cute, but don't, just don't.

My thinking was, I am very used to running in that weather living in Southern GA and I could slow down from my 10k pace by like 3 min/mile. Maybe I'll keep it as an option for a last-minute purchase if it's unseasonably cool, but heed y'all's advice and plan something more realistic.

Narrator: The heat will still be awful.

FWIW, I train in the Atlanta area, so used to heat and humidity. I ran as (ahem) Mr Incredible, complete with tights and figured that I'd be done by the time the sun was coming up and it was getting warm. I was regretting the full tights within the first few miles and was drenched by the time I finished. I got back to the hotel and my running clothes could not have been more wet if I had jumped in the pool.
So trying to to do it essentially encased in a fur rug? Hard pass. Maybe during one of the marathon weekends when it is freezing, but if I ever do SS again, I'll be in a more minimal costume (bounding), or regular running gear.
YMMV. (alternatively: You May Melt and Vanish)

Edit: What Nancipants said while I was typing my response....

Take it from someone who has run in more layers than the temps call for at Disney--you will be drenched in sweat, and it will be gross. I've done all 4 Springtime Surprise weekends so far, and it hasn't been cold or low humidity for any of them.
