Spring Surprise (March 31-April 3rd 2022)

Just a word on race photo stops and PhotoPass: I've now stopped for the new, physically distanced pics during W&D and Dopey - so 6 races - and 100% of the PhotoPass ones taken while it was still dark are terrible. The photo stops are not lit properly for physical distancing: the camera flash illuminates the runner/s, but not the characters behind them.a Friends who handed their phones to CMs to snap extra pics came away with MUCH better photos from those dark stops. I came away saying I won't bother stopping for photos in the dark again.

This continues to drive me crazy. They have to know how terrible the dark pictures are turning out. Can't they get a few lights out there to light up the character and background a bit? (And yes I know the real answer is Of course the can, they just won't because $$$).

Thankfully my phone pics taken at the same time look fantastic (iPhone 12 Pro Max). If I showed the 2 photos to a random person and asked them which one was shot by a photographer on a DSLR and which one was on a phone, I'm guessing that people would get it wrong close to 100% of the time.

Looking back at my "dark" pictures, it really varied from spot-to-spot. The picture with Gus and Mrs. Incredible/Edna were well lit. However, my picture with Pluto and Frozone were pretty terrible.

The problem is that they DO light the character and background, but not the spot where the runner stands, so you end up backlit and in the dark. They can't dial down the shutter speed or it would overexpose the character and likely make for blurry photos of the runners. They could use a fill flash, but they've gone away from that recently (guessing either battery life or redeye issues). They just need to add an extra light and a mark for the runner to stand on.

Your phone likely works better because most use an HDR setting to compensate for the different exposures. Most digital cameras have that too, but it makes for larger file sizes, so that may be a reason they don't appear to be using that as a solution.

Disregard - I found a certified TOT map and a saw 2022 and was excited for a second… BUT that is the year it expires - Lights Motor Action on the map was what first clued me in that it was wrong. 🤪
Sorry!!

So now that we’re officially 3 weeks out, is today the day we get our event guide? I’m itching to see the courses and to start planning where my family will spectate!

That's the hope and the dream!

I may wear out the F5 button on my keyboard this morning, and since I usually workout at lunchtime, that'll probably be when it gets updated/released.

I hope that this isn't the case, but I have the feeling that they're going to release it next Wednesday. :headache:

Per runDisney yesterday morning, though not stated on site, credential pick up for volunteers will be available before first day of Expo.

I just received my digital waiver, but when I went to sign the waiver it said I signed it back in early December. The date would match up with around 4 weeks before the marathon. The top of the waiver definitely says "Springtime Surprise" with the April dates. Oh well.

I believe for this weekend, we signed waivers when we registered… if I’m remembering correctly.
I just received that email as well.🤷‍♀️

Same

I KNOW! What are they waiting for? We're only three weeks out now.
I guess some part of me had to realize it's 3 weeks, because I do know I've only got one long training run left... but I also felt like it was a lot further off than 3 weeks! I've had so much going on at home and at work, I've not had much time to think about this race weekend at all. I do have costume parts, at least - just need to find time to do a small amount of sewing. Soon, apparently. :rotfl:

Same. I got so excited that I practically jumped out of my chair when I saw the email because I was hoping that it was the Event Guide. So disappointing!

Confusing all of these waivers just tells me that I sign up for too many of these races. We have another sign-up in a week and a half, right???

I just want to know where I'll be running, I don't care about much else. Well, I'd also like some discounts around DS. I was sad when the W&D ones weren't available for MW. And this time I'm staying at SSR, so a nice and easy walk over (basically giving my kids easy access to Gideon's)

Such is my luck. Signed up for the 10k/10 miler, been training on schedule, and yesterday I’m diagnosed with a hernia.
Debating on whether to run at all. The doc didn’t say “no” 🤷‍♂️
Have a long run coming up tomorrow so I’ll use that to cement my decision.

Definitely follow your doctor's instructions, as he knows the severity and extent of the hernia. I've been running with a minor hernia for years, though. I've found wearing a good pair of compression shorts with an ab compression panel like CW-X make all the difference in the world.

Looks like many of you got the email today too. I was all excited thinking it was the event guide. Pretty sure I already signed my waiver, but now when I try to login, I get the message that I need to log in before accessing my account. :crazy2: I guess the website is down.. Disney IT is horrible.

Did an 8 mile training run today. I have a 5K race this weekend, and a 10K race next weekend. I'm not sure I'll have time for another long run before the race. I hope some pixie dust will carry me the last 2 miles! :rolleyes1

Pixie dust and adrenaline! They're a lethal combination.
