Spring Pantry Challenge

Does anyone have any ideas for spaghetti sauce? I have eleven jars, and they are taking up the better part of a shelf, and I'd love to clear some of them out. But the only things I can think of doing are pizza; (which would require me buying everything else, and that defeats the purpose,) meatballs or sausage in sauce, and plain old spaghetti, (which I'm really not hungry for, and even if I were, it's eleven jars of sauce.)

Biscuit pizza, with tortillas or for quesadillas or on eggs or potatos

made chili with cut up hotdogs in it. Chili weinies. Kids had plain pasta and hotdogs. This was a chili kit I had that included pasta and used frozen meatsauce to make it.

That's an idea. I have an extra package of those lil' weiners from the holidays and didn't know what to do with them.

Any other ideas for those?

I think this thread is useless without pictures. :thumbsup2

If you are going to be talking about food porn, you need pictures people. :rotfl:

Are you ladies cooking for just yourselves, your husbands or fiances or kids?

How has this idea of using up stuff been going over with them?

Its just DH & I. I think I might get a few strange looks on some of the substitutions, but he'll get over it. Hopefully.

I vote for actual plate photos. Magazine pictures are way too deceiving.

So far, so good. But, it isn't easy. DH doesn't always get it when I say "let's eat what we already have and not shop".

We managed to eat mostly leftovers all weekend except breakfast, which was cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt. We did eat a variety, but it was still leftovers.

Tonight was hamburger steak, mac & cheese, gr. beans, cheesy bread. DH was going to go buy humburger buns, but I finally talked him into just eating them as hamburger steaks since it was not economical to go to the closest, but most expensive grocery store in town just to get buns. Besides, I knew that would lead to other unnecessary purchases like Reese's.

Last night we had Stove Top Chicken Skillet (yuck!), mac 'n cheese, and Steam Fresh baby potato blend. Obviously, we did not like the skillet recipe. The stove top was too mushy cooked that way.

Tonight, I am planning the fishsticks, corn and mashed potatoes that we did not have on Sunday night. DD should be happy. That is her favorite meal.

Looks like I'll finally get around to making that crab stuff tonight. Then another night this week I'll be making shrimp scampi, and pasta florentine another night.

Tonight we'll probably eat at my mom and dad's house. My DH works late on Tuesdays so my daughter and I usually go over to their house for a while. We're eating cereal for breakfast and probably just some PB and J for lunch and an apple.

Since I'm not cooking supper tonight I'll have a little baking day with banana bread and pumpkin muffins.

Tonight is just spaghetti with sauce its a busy day here so an easy diner tonight. I cook for my husband and two girls and my mother in law and sometimes my brother in law.

What is everyones favorite side dish with meals? A starch? A vegetable? A fruit? Fruit and a veggie? All of the above?

All of the above for me.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I have pulled pork on the menu for tonight. I had a pork roast over the weekend. There is quite a bit left, but since DH sliced it, I am not sure on how to "pull" it now. Should I just chop it thin and let it sit in bbq, or put it in whole in the bbq and hope it breaks apart..

And here is the kicker, I don't think I have bbq sauce so I need to look for a recipe, I know Bobby Flay makes his own all the time, how hard can it be?

Suggestions, please?

tonights dinner. Fried ham and eggs. with French toast and some kind of veggie..

I have about 5 loafs of Whole wheat bread( i got them on sale and my kids just hate the taste) so I am going to make French toast with the bread to cover the tatse:idea:

also I have 6 boxes of frozen corn, that I found......I must admit. when I see a sale and I have a coupon. Its on:cheer2::teacher:

So I just want to let you that I have a bunch of crazy items that I have stock piled.....I need a meeting:guilty:

It's really easy to make your own barbecue sauce. Just add about a cup of ketchup, a squirt of mustard, 1TBSP molasses, and about 1/4 c brown sugar. and if you like heat you can add a pinch of cayne. You can adjust the sugar to your liking.
I usually use pork shoulder for pulled pork but I think you should pull apart the roast and then put the sauce over it and let it sit.

Tonight is turkey burgers and homemade baked wedge fries. My daughter has Girl Scouts tonight so it's early dinner for us.

Tonight is sticky orange chicken drumsticks with rice pilaf and salad.

I cook for both my mom and I and sometimes my Grandma.

I like all kinds of sides and like to switch it up so we don't have the same thing to many times in a month.

I am all set, I have all the ingredients except the cayenne pepper, but I do have chilie sauce...

I have decided on the following recipe (I used yours as a base, but I have so much more to use up, so I am adding to it)

1/2 cup onion sweated
2 cloves garlic sauteed
Cup of ketchup
squirt of mustard
squirt of molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
Shake or two of chili sauce
Shake of worcheshire sauce

The pork has settled so I am going to try and pull it. I am going to do stovetop instead of crockpot. It's getting late in the day and it sounds easy enough on the stovetop, one pan.

Thanks for the inspiration.
