Back from an incredible week at WDW March 8-15. Wanted to share my thoughts as I have enjoyed reading other’s experiences. I also wanted to assuage fears about fp+ as best I can.

Thoughts:

Yacht Club –Our room was far from the lobby, but easily accessed from the outside - which was also a more interesting walk than wandering through "Shining"-like hotel hallways. The cast members were warm, friendly, and helpful. Housekeeping was great, as was the view. I loved the location and we had easy access to Epcot and Hollywood Studios (we walked to Epcot and we both walked and took the boat to the Studios.)

FastPass+ - I admit it –I was really, really worried. We were a rope drop and heavy fastpass using family and I knew this would be a different kind of vacation. We decided to go with the flow and honestly – it was our best trip yet. I could see how it wouldn’t work as well for everyone, but for us, it was very successful. In fact, it relieved SOME of the rope drop pressure (hard to teach an old dog new tricks.) We did have a day where we wandered into Epcot a few minutes after rope drop and got breakfast in France – unheard of to the “old” me. This only worked for us because we didn’t need to ride the headliners multiple times each day – I know this wouldn’t be the case for everyone.

My Disney Experience – I used an iPhone 5 with AT&T service and had very little trouble. I sometimes toggled off WiFi if it seemed slow. I did bring a spare battery charger and would charge at dinner. That being said, I wanted to note a couple of things:
1. When changing fastpasses during the day, I found more availability day of than the day or weeks before.
2. When changing fastpasses, sometimes it looked like it only pulled up 2 guests instead of all 4 of us. If I clicked through like that was right, it would correct itself later. Definitely buggy, but didn’t slow us down.

Dining – We had the Deluxe Dining plan and enjoyed some great meals. This time, some favorites were places that previously hadn’t been stellar, so that was a nice surprise. I loved Yachtsman, Narcoossee’s, and Flying Fish. I liked San Angel Inn and dinner at Be Our Guest. Our wait staff at both Yachtsman and Narcoossee's were exceptional which contributed to great experiences.

Epcot Seas Aqua Tour – Absolutely the highlight of our trip. Swimming with the sharks, stingrays, fish, and sea turtles (while waving to the people in Coral Reef and Living Seas) was incredible. Can’t recommend it enough.

Crowds - Better than I thought for our first Spring Break trip. We used easywdw crowd calendar.

Misses – The only thing I didn’t enjoy or wouldn’t do again was the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party. It was chaotic from start to finish. The bathrooms had no toilet paper or paper towels. The flow for desserts and drinks was poorly planned – huge line and no easy access to anything. The staff seemed tense. It was nice to have a good place to watch the fireworks, but the other pieces were so frustrating that it made the evening a disappointment. I will say, we had a MUCH easier exit of the park than I had ever dreamed – left right after the fireworks, walked behind Main Street with maybe a dozen other people, and walked right out onto a bus which pulled away right after we arrived. That was unexpected and a huge stroke of luck.

Also, Josh from easywdw wrote a post recently about the effect fp+ has on some of the former afternoon walk-on rides and it couldn’t have been more accurate. Our easy afternoon standbys are no more!

One last note – I did not find that fastpass+ lines were much different than fastpass, with two exceptions:
1. Safari at AK – line had an extended queue and looked awful, but moved very quickly.
2. Big Thunder Mountain - I don’t even know what to say about this one! We came up to it once and it was so long we couldn’t even tell what it was. We came back a little later and it still looked long, but moved very quickly. We were on in maybe 6 minutes.

Okay –I think that’s it. I just wanted to share my experience and hopefully this might help some people. I do believe there were some times when we got lucky. I also think there were some times when we made our own luck. I know that what worked for us won’t work for everyone, but wanted to share that we had a great time.

Thanks for the great report! Glad you had a good trip, our experiences have been positive as well.

We were there 3/7-3/13 right across the lake at Boardwalk! I just finished my super long review. Seems pretty similar to yours :D

Thanks for the very informative and thorough review! We are going in May, and we are RD people who love to ride the main attractions several times. I'm very nervous about how, after 22 trips, we will adjust to the new way of things. I really don't like the fact that our touring style has to be adjusted, but I guess we have no choice if we want to keep going to DW.

The info on all guests not being pulled up when changing FP+ is helpful, as we have 2 rooms, 2 reservations and they randomly don't all come up at the same time. Good to know it works it's way out! Thanks again for relieving some of my worries!

Glad it helped! There are definitely things I don't like (tiering and limit of 3 in MK), but it did work out better for us than I though. We still did rope drop to headliner, then hurry to another headliner and then ride again with FP later two days - so that part still "worked" for us, too, except this time we didn't have to rush to also get the FP. I did notice a lot of people were in FP+ lines early, so that pulled away from some ride lines.

Oh - and we still love love love Crystal Palace pre-park opening breakfast. We did that for both of our MK days and were able to do so much in those first hours.

I also wanted to add that in MK, Jungle Cruise lines seemed especially long, so I was glad to have FP+ for it one of our days.

Awesome report!! We were also there last weekend - 3/14-17 (fri - mon) - and your experience was quite similar to ours! I am glad you had a great time!!! :)

Thank you!! You sound just like us. DD & I are planning a "bonus" trip (one we were not expecting to or planning to take) so we are very casual this time and I can see us being "Breakfast in France" types on this trip. We have our must do's (A&E, Be Our Guest), but the rest is "whatever happens, happens". I truly appreciate the optimistic view you have as I believe ours will be a similar experience! Thank you!

Awesome review! We were there the 9-14 and had pretty much the same experience. We only did 2 rope drops which was totally unheard of the way we used to tour. It was nice to be able to sleep in a bit and still get everything done. We rope dropped Animal Kingdom and Thursday EMH at MK. Did Epcot Monday and Wednesday afternoon with Fast Passes so we could do both Soarin and Test Track without rope drop.

Fast Pass plus does change the way we tour...but we hit all 4 parks multiple times and pretty much avoided most crowds. It is hard to pick what Fast Pass times a few months in advance...but we know what we like to do and took a good guess. What didn't work we changed and had an awesome relaxing trip.

Enjoyed your review! We were at the Yacht Club as well from the 12-16th. Yes, those hallways are long, but we also used the outside entrance when possible. It was our first stay there and we enjoyed it. I think it was definitely the quietest WDW room we've ever been in, never heard a thing.

I agree with your fast pass + assessment. It definitely took the pressure off making rope drop. And I agree some lines were deceiving. One day we got in the fast pass line at Space Mountain and it stretched outside to Astro Orbiter! I didn't think it looked good for us but it moved right along and we were on shortly.

My one hope is that they will soon allow more fast passes for another park on the same day.

Thank you for sharing! We are headed there shortly and I to am a little nervous about some things. Mostly I want a clean room, no sickness, and to be able to ride some things without really long lines. We used to use FP quite a bit so I do expect to be able to do less in a day but it is nice to know it can still be enjoyable. I really, really hope there are some changes around the corner but for this trip we are going to just try and relax and enjoy!

Our room at the Yacht Club was very clean, didn't have any issues with that. And we've been home five days and no one got sick so it's all good!

Same here - clean room, no one was sick! I get so nervous before every trip when, without fail, norovirus starts going around! Glad we made it through unscathed.
