We got a call an hour ago from my BIL who lives in VB. They stayed and waited it out this time. They are about 5 miles inland. They reported 4 hours of sustained winds at or above 100 mph. They lost an awning and amazingly that was the extent of the damage. The roof and windows remained intact. Their streets were flooded but the water only came up to the base of their driveway so the house didn't get any water. Their house was built in the 1950s and has done great through both storms. They lost 3 palm trees in Frances but none hit the house. Of course there is no power once again but other than that everyone is fine. Due to the flooding they hadn't gotten out to check out the rest of the town. They also said they won't stay next time. They went to relatives in Orlando for Frances but thought they'd try it this time but not again. They hadn't heard anything about Disney's VB.

Talked to my BIL & SIL in VB this afternoon. They live a mile from the DVC resort -- south, I guess -- away from town. The side of their house is right on A1A. They stayed in their house. Lost a few more tiles from their roof and a couple more trees down, but no other damage. They even have their phone service this time, but no power. No water damage. I wonder how the resort (DVC) fared this time after just re-opening last Monday. We have reservations there on 10/9 after we disembark from the 10/2 Magic cruise. It will be interesting to see what happens.

That is amazing, jeanniec, that they live that close to the coast and didn't have more damage. Hopefully that speaks well for Disney's property.

I have been in constant communication with a friend who's been in Vero for about twenty years now, says it's the worst she's ever seen. Said the wind last night was indescribable.

She was one of two mobile homes left standing in a park with about 600 homes.

She's about three miles inland near the outlets, on the water side of things.

Thanks for posting the info. We have family in Jensen Beach near Stuart. We have been worried about them as we haven't been able to get in touch with them. It's just good to hear that some folks have done ok thru the storm...all you see on the TV is massive destruction :( .

Ducklite- do you know the name of the mobile home park your friend is in in Vero? My parents also own a mobile home near the outlets on the waterside but we haven't been able to contact anyone in the park. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the report. So glad to hear your relatives are all okay! That must have been scary to be in a house with 100 mph wind wailing outside!
