**spoilers*** Lost Season Five **spoilers**

Wow, even though I had a big suspicion he was gonna do that, I was still shocked that it actually happened. I wonder what happens to Old Ben now? Does he just vanish?

I'm sure the island will find a way to save him. Just like when Locke was shot by Ben and thrown into the pit of bodies. It wasn't his time to die yet.

So does that count as the death this season? I can't wait for next week's episode.

Something tells me he's not dead.

As much as I would LOVE to see Ben dead, I don't think he is. Sayid made the big mistake of just taking off and not checking young Ben to be sure he really was dead. Could young Ben have been wearing a bullet-proof vest (ala Charlotte when Ben shot her)? Or like Kycha said....maybe the island will save him in some way?

What if he WAS shot, but somehow isn't dead when they find him, and Juliet is forced to operate on young Ben to save his life all the while knowing what a rotten, nasty adult he grows up to be? And maybe Juliet will need Jack's help during the operation? That'll blow their cover for sure.

Ok, here's a weird theory: perhaps Ben is REALLY a good guy. Maybe now that he's all grown up he realizes that gassing and wiping out the Dharma Initiative was the wrong thing to do. So he manipulated the Losties to go back in time and kill him as a boy and change the future so he won't grow up to do all those nasty things?

I know, that's really stretching it, but the producers keep us guessing as to whether Ben or Widmore is the good guy/bad guy, and they've got me just about totally convinced that Ben is evil....I can see them turning this all around so that Ben turns out to be good.

I was actually thinking the same thing.

Ok, this is the spoiler thread...

Someone on another Lost forum posted a link to this spoiler picture; don't click if you don't want to know:

Maybe Ben "needed" Sayid to go back and shoot him. It seems like the Hostiles didn't really need/want him if it had been 4 years (I may be wrong on length of time) and Ben was still being patient.

So by being shot, he knew the Hostiles would come get him and he would get into their camp thus ending the wait.

Just a theory I thought I'd throw out there.

I was just thinking last night if the DIS had a LOST thread and I finally found it!

I'm in love with this season so far because the nerdy side of me is really into the time travel aspect of the show. I like what Amy said and that's a theory I hadn't thought of, but if that was the case killing Ben as a boy would change a lot and create a sort of paradox. A lot of what had happened on the island wouldn't have happen without Ben. Locke wouldn't have moved the island without him, Locke wouldn't have been murdered, the Oceanic 6 wouldn't have come back to the island therefore Sayid wouldn't have been there to kill kid Ben...who's to say that the plane would have even crashed on the island if Ben had died 30 years earlier? It sort of falls under the Grandfather paradox.

As you can see, I spent a lot of time last night thinking about this and researching it online

I completely agree with you. Maybe this is what turns Ben bad...

We've already seen/read spoilers that Kate talks Jack into saving young Ben. No dead kid, no time travel paradox.

.

I actually hadn't read that. I had a feeling Ben wasn't really dead, but I just started thinking about what if he was...what would happen the future then?
