Splitting accommodation costs with another family

Since the bathroom in the second bedroom is smaller (and a combination tub/shower versus a separate shower and tub), I'd charge the user of the master bedroom a bit more than the family using the studio portion. Plus if the smaller family sleeps in both the master bedroom and the living room (on the sleeper sofa), they should pay more since they have more space.

Thanks for the responses. Just as an FYI, I am Family #1 (the family of 5) and my sister is Family #2. My sister will insist on paying half, but I just wanted to make sure that others thought that was fair. We had 2 rooms at CBR booked for $200/night each, and I can book a 2 bedroom at OKW for $450ish/night total. So for a little more money, we can all enjoy the extra space.

Fair is what you are all comfortable with and are in agreement on. If you'd have 2 rooms non DVC with each family paying for one, splitting it is reasonable. We pay for the accommodations as our way of giving back.

As someone who is always in a couple when we split big accommodations, as long as I am getting my own bedroom and bathroom, I don't care to split the cost evenly. To me, everyone has the same amenities, 1 bedroom, 1 bath. We have on occasion traveled with my entire family, and that is generally how we split the cost. Usually anyone with a room/bathroom gets an even split. My husband's family likes to get smaller accommodations so they don't have to pay as much and want to throw us on a pull out couch somewhere. I would not expect to split the costs evenly for that. For the record though, I would much rather just get my own bedroom and bath and pay the price!!

Been in this situation with great, longtime friends, we with 4 kids, they with 1. My solution was - sure, we'll just split it since it's simple. But then I insisted on treating them to nice meal, and picked up the tab for drinks more often than "necessary". Had a great trip.
