We're going to be using our DVC for first time this July! Our family includes 2 adults and 3 kids(11, 6, 1 1/2)...we can stay studio but the washer/dryer and extra room would be great in a 1 bed! With that being said....I was thinking to do a split stay in a studio at BWV for first half of trip then switch to 1 bed at AKV for last half?!
How difficult is it transferring luggage and all to a different resort? Will resort do all the moving for you or must you move all luggage and such?

TIA!

Bell Services will transfer luggage and groceries (if you have any) for you. They only do this once a day around 2 PM so luggage would not be available at the new resort until closer to 4 PM. You can either drop off the luggage at the Bell Stand or call to have it picked up from your room. If you have them pick it up, you will need to be in the room when they arrive and a gratuity will be expected. At the new resort, you can either pick up from the Bell Stand or have it delivered to your room (must be in room for delivery).

We are pretty much doing this in July. We are a family of 5 starting off at BWV in 2 studios (our kids are 15, 15 and 10) for 5 days then transferring to AKV for 6 days in a 2bedroom value. We wanted to spread out for the second half of our stay and also have a washer and dryer in room. Transferring is easy. We just have Bell services pick up our bags in our room, go where ever we want, head to our new resort and pick up our bags at Bell services or call down for our luggage when we get to our room.:thumbsup2. It is easy.

We always enjoy a split stay, some people feel it's like 2 vacations in one. It's easy as the PP have stated.

Even if you have something that needs to stay cool, let them know and it'll be taken care of.

We're not great fans of split says. We've been members for 15 years now and we've done a lot of great stays. The biggest problem we find with split stays is that homeless feeling on the day you change. You have to check out by 11AM and your new villa might not be available until after 4PM. So with a small child, you'll be stuck doing napping in the stroller that day. You can hang onto a small bag with swimming stuff, but don't plan a big dinner at 5PM because you might not be able to change your clothes or get cleaned up in time. Unless it is right there at AKV.

You'll have to have your kitchen items packed up in refrigerated bags to go to the next location. While they are still at BWV, they will be refrigerated (or kept frozen), but during the trip over to AKV (and wherever else that truck needs to go) they will be unrefrigerated. Don't pack ice cream and hope it lasts.

I for one do not like the idea of a split stay........yet. We have a 3y old and a 7y old, so we still have nap time. We are going for two nights on short notice and beyond thrilled our waitlist went through. Two nights in different resorts became 2 nights in 1 room.

our son is close to the point of no more naps so hopefully our summer 2014 trip we can do what you are...... Studio first, then switch to 1 br to spread out and relax at the end....and have the washer/dryer. It is a good way to save points, especially if you spend most of your time at the parks early in your trip like we do.

I gotta imagine the studios will turn into ALL 1 bedrooms when the 1.5 year old gets a little older.

Some people love them, some don't! I'm not a fan, I unpack, then I'm done! It's harder, more of a pain really if you have food, you're suitcases can sit around but the food has to be packed and stored in fridges and then also unpacked when you get to the other resort. It's certainly doable, and many do it! For me its just a bother!

P.S. Love those 1 and 2 bedrooms!
