Split stay...yay or nay?

We are considering a split stay for our 10 day trip June 2025. I'm not certain I want the hassle of changing resorts but my daughter really wants to do it. We will not be able to take advantage of the free water park perk on arrival day, but have been told that if you do a split stay, the perk can be used your check in day at the 2nd resort. Can anyone speak to this? We will be at All Star Movies initially, but thinking about PORFQ for the split. We have stayed at Riverside so many times and love it there as well.

I'm assuming you mean 2026, right? May already be on your radar but just in case, the water park arrival day benefit for 2026 has been announced as available "during the summer of 2026" with the specific dates TBD. I "assume" June will in fact be "summer 2026" but keep an eye out just in case Disney opts to define "summer" differently than the rest of us. :-)

PS: I agree, with a 10-day stay, splitting is a great way to broaden experience at different resorts and to mix up the trip.

Nay for sure. Definitely stick to just ONE resort hotel. If you really like a certain restaurant and you’re ok with being able to swim at ONLY the resort hotel that you’re staying in, you can always hop to other resorts.

I think a split stay can be good if you are gaining an advantage by moving. FQ gives you the smaller resort and the boat to Disney Springs, but a smaller food court. It is up to you as to whether it is worth the trouble or not.

I've never personally done a split day but would absolutely explore the possibility of doing it the way you've described it. 10 days seems like the perfect length to split down the middle, you'd get to stay at two different resorts that are both fun in their own ways, and you'd get that free waterpark day.

To me, the perfect middle-of-the-trip day sounds like breakfast at Movies, sending your luggage over to POFQ (or driving to POFQ and dropping off with bell services if you'll have your car), heading to the waterpark until 2-3 PMish, then back to POFQ to freshen up and dinner at Disney Springs.

Nay from me, I've done 3, and after the last one I swore I would never do another. You are basically without a home once you check out, which means if something unexpected happens and you want to go back to your room, you can't.

We are considering this too….i am thinking the benefits are good of being in two different locations and trying out something new. Also heard Disney will move your luggage!

We are on the fence too. We have our favorite, but would also like to experience something new. But, not having access to our room for awhile is a pain. I'm inclined to do it, because you never know until you try it. Decisions, decisions......

Would they really move our luggage? Seems too good to be true

We are doing a split stay and taking advantage of the free waterpark in the day of the switch. 5 nights at the GF and 7 at YC. S we have the best of both worlds. MK area and then EOCOT/DHS area

The only way I will do a split is for the first night. We've done this in the past as kind of a happy accident where we had our DVC booked and then decided to come a day earlier but either didn't have enough points or DVC availability. We actually like to now book one separate day and get the dining plan for a night and get our refillable mugs, a meal we wouldn't want to pay for out of pocket, and then move to our resort the next day. The water park is an added bonus if you do it this way and you could choose to go wither the first or second day of the trip.

But then I like to unpack and get settled in and not move. I find a true split stay to be too disruptive.

As @Wood Nymph noted they will move it for you.
Your luggage will not arrive until around 5 or so though so if planning to visit the pool keep a pool bag with you.

Also refrigerated food and medicine they no longer will move for you. If you have those items you will need to grab an uber or hop in your car and bring them to your next resort yourself. If you have to do that anyway you may as well just bring all of your luggage with you and give it to bell services with the cold items so if your room is ready early then it is already at the resort.

I always do split stays. I also do 10 night stays and split them 3,4,3 or 3,3,4. Take along some back packs to take stuff your new resort and have bell services take the rest. I head over to the new resort the morning of the change and drop off my backpack and head to the park.

I will have cold groceries. Can a Minnie Van transport luggage with us?
