Split stay with MBs

I know this is very specific, but I'm hoping there is someone else out there with a similar situation.

We are going to WDW in less than 2 weeks. :cool1: We are doing a split stay. The first half of the trip is a work trip for me. We have a room only reservation. The second half of the trip is a family vacation and we have a SPD reservation. I have magic bands for both portions of the trip. Both sets of MBs are linked in My Disney Experience.

We have 5 day MYW tickets with the 2nd part of the trip. My plan is to go to the parks with those tickets the first day and then "upgrade" them to 8 day tickets. I know in pre-MB days, you could go to the park and pick up the tickets 3 days early. Does anyone know for sure how that works with MBs? I've called Disney three times and gotten 3 different answers.

Can I just enter the park with my MB since it's linked up? If so, does it matter which MB? If I have to use the MB from the 2nd part of the trip, do I then need to change back to the MB for the first part of the trip to make purchases?

So confused!!!:scratchin:faint:

I can't answer your question about the tickets, but we did a split stay a couple weeks ago (first night at Pop with no tickets, then 6 nights at BWI with park hoppers). We were able to wear either set of bands the whole time. Just make sure you have them deactivated at your first resort and all activated at your second resort. Both sets worked flawlessly for us. Have a great trip!

Found my answer :) I have been looking for this answer all morning. thanks

We've been back about 2 weeks now. The MBs worked perfectly.

The first day, we checked in at GF with the MBs that were originally designated for the POR portion of our stay. No issues.

We went to MK and tried to go straight through the turnstyles. Didn't work. Went to guest relations and explained the issue. They were able to activate our tickets that were part of the second half of the split stay without any issue. It took about 30 minutes so they gave us two fast pass vouchers.

I tried to buy additional days of tickets at the concierge desk at GF. I couldn't do it since I had originally purchased the tickets as part of a POR package.

We did automatic check out at GF. We didn't go to the desk at all or have our bands deactivated. DH & the kids went to EPCOT that day while I was stuck in a class. They didn't have any issues.

We checked into POR that evening. We were able to keep using the same bands without problems. I also was able to add extra days of tickets without any issue.

We discovered at POR that both sets of our MBs worked. DH had decorated both of his and wanted to wear the different decoration (he's all artsy and crap). He check to see if they would both unlock the door and they did. He wore the opposite one to the park and it worked perfectly. He changed back and forth during the rest of the trip based on which one he felt like wearing. There was never any issue.

Hi AmyKat,

Thank you for reporting back. There appears to be quite of few of us with the exact same issue with a split stay and having a room only reservation followed by a package. I doubt this will work, but were you able to set up FP+ selections for your "room only" days via the MDE app after having your MB's activated?

Thanks again,

awdwnut

I was able to set up FP+ after I had entered the park and had the tickets moved forward. Does that make sense? But, at that point, I only had a 5 day pass, not an 8 day pass. So I had to delete the FP+ for the last day of our trip to set up FP+ for the 2nd day of our trip. My mom was joining us only for the 2nd half of our trip so I didn't mess with her FP+.

Once we checked into POR and added the extra days on our passes, I was able to copy mom's FP+ to the rest of us without a problem.

FP+ was really easy to work with on the fly and really easy to make changes. I didn't think I would like it but I really did.

I was able to set up FP in advance for my split stay. I am an annual pass holder this could be the difference.

Our original stay on DVC points at AKV with APs starts 3/28 - 4/5. I booked FP at 60 day mark.

I decided 2 days ago to book a one room stay with an AP discount for our arrival night at WL. Right after I booked the one night. Since everything was already linked in MDE. I went in customized our MBs and set up FP for that one day. I just received the MB via UPS, today the 3 day.

My MBs for the original trip are not here yet they have been sent via USPS.

.

APs make the difference. I think AP holders can schedule FP+ at any time, even if they don't have a reservation at a Disney resort.
