Split Stay? What would you do?

We're staying at the Polynesian in February for a week. 7 month mark is in a few days and the first 2 days of our trip (and 3 days prior) are available at the GF standard studios. Should we do a split stay? And would it be easiest to call member services to do this (remove 2 days off Poly reservation to GF). It's been a dream of mine to stay there for as long as I could remember, and from reading the threads here I know the GF books out fast and the studios are rare. November will be our first DVC trip so I don't know how lucky you have to be to get the GF at 7 months. We've never done a split stay (November will be our first). What would you do IF those rooms are still available?

If you want it, go for it. Split stays are fine. Whether or not you can make the change will depend on availability, though.

I'm not a big fan of split stays but have done them. If its a resort you really want to stay at, then do it.

That's all your personal preference. We don't like split stays unless absolutely necessary, but some people we know do splits almost every trip. To each their own. From the sounds of it, GF is a dream of yours. Now's as good a time as ever! Go for it and enjoy!

Depends on your flexibility and willingness to pack and unpack while on vacation. Would not be an option for me, but if your heart is set on it, then do it!!!!

We have done so many split stays over the years and I don't find them to be too much of a hassle, though I totally get why some others do. On a 7 day trip, I wouldn't hesitate!

We do split stays on most trips that are 7 nights or longer. I think Disney does a great job making it painless. Go for it!

Thanks everybody! We ended up thinking it over again and decided not to do a split stay. However, we switched over to lake view at bay lake! We want to stay at all the resorts and we decided since the days are available for BLT we should book it since we will always have first dibs at the Polynesian. It also saved us 16 points as well!

That's a great choice too. I like split stays, but prefer to split between a monorail resort and a different location. The Poly and GF are an easy walking distance so you can easily enjoy both resorts without a split atay.

Like BLT but LOVED the Poly. I am not a fan of packing - I prefer to "move in" and settle in. We did a 5 / 5 split last summer between BCV and AKV. Yes, the move itself was painless as Bell Services moved our stuff for us but I still had to pack 2x. I packed all of us in 1 large duffle for the first 5 nights and another large duffle for the remaining 5 nights to try to cut down on HOW MUCH packing I had to do for each leg. Kinda worked. But was more of a pain to pack like that in the beginning because it required more organization. I wouldn't intentionally plan for splits unless it's a longer trip although because the VGF is so point intensive we've talked about doing just 2 or 3 nights there when we DO try it just to save on points.

We are doing a split stay in november. BWV and Dolphin. One night at BWV (so we can use ME going to the hotel) and so we can check out the resort. Shouldn't be too difficult of a move since we won't have that much time to turn out luggages inside out and there won't be much to really take out for one day!

For only 1 night I wouldn't even open my main piece of luggage - I would have whatever I need in a boarding bag or carry-on.

We are doing 12 days with a 3 way split. Tomorrow we switch from Poly to BWV... The first switch from AKV to Poly was seamless.

I prefer not to do split stays given that you'll be without a room and things for the better part of the day. Plus you can't transfer the luggage using the monorail. I might take it and try to change the entire trip with the wait list and hope that it wasn't a split stay. I like the Marriott option of staying in the old room until the new one is ready.

I'm in the "prefer to just move in" crowd. We've done splits before and they're no problem, the move itself is generally hassle free. I just like that feeling of settling in and being home, especially on longer trips. Everytime I have to pack it makes me feel like the vacation is over.
