Split stay as a renter?

At some point in the future, I may be looking to purchase through resale. I have been reading lots of posts about the importance of your home resort for the 11 month booking window. I am just not sure which resort I like best at this point (I have two or three that I'm leaning toward.) I am thinking that for my next vacation I may rent points to try out a resort or two...so is it proper "etiquette" as a renter to ask for a split stay? Does this complicate things too much for the owner?

if you are within 7 months, a split stay shouldn't be too difficult, IMO.

But something to remember, lots of members make their reservations at 11 months out at their home resorts because DVC villas book up quickly. At 7 months they can use their points at any resort and sometimes some of them are already booked up. So if you are going during a holiday time (don't post when you are going in this thread, nor what you want to book because it will get edited out - could be perceived as a need to rent post) or during one of the very busy DVC times, you'll need that 11 month advantage. If the member you work with does own points at both of the resorts you want to book at, you'll have to rent a second reservation from a different member.

Deb & Bill--Do you mean "does not own?" in the last sentence?

This is why I want to take the time to make a good decision about my own home resort. I will try and make sure I plan a good time of year for my "trial" DVC vacation.

Thanks for the input...

As a bit of an aside, the way that my family works, we can never plan 11 months out and so home resort isn't an issue for us. We also don't tend to vacation at very "popular" times. As owners, we make it a point to split our resorts during the week. Being at two different resorts makes it seem almost like two different vacations. Have fun while you are deciding.
