Split ressies eated together?

We had to split our party of 7 into two parties of three and four people in order to get dinner reservations at Garden Grill for our Epcot date. They are for 5:50 and 5:55. What can I do to help us be seated close together? Call that morning directly to the restaurant? Check in together and tell them we are willing to wait a reasonable amount of time to be seated together? All of this? Or just request when we get there and hope?

I would stop by the podium if you’re in the land earlier in the day and mention it - keep in mind they may or may not be able to accommodate. We did this once (not garden grill) and they said come a bit early and let the staff know our request. We got there 15 or so minutes before our ARD and got lucky! They seated us together about the same time our ADR was for good luck.

It all depends on seating available, all you can do is ask. You can also ask if you can be seated near each other, even if at separate tables. We did this with Tusker House and they were able to seat us together, but it all depends on what is available.

One thing they made sure we knew was that if we were seated together at the same table, automatic gratuity would be added but wouldn't if we were simply at tables near each other.

if both tables have the same server, yes, there still would have been the automatic charge.

Try to get there early and ask the hostess. They'll try to seat you together or near each other if possible. We go with 11+ people often and there are a few places we've had to get 2 or even 3 reservations. The only place that couldn't seat us together or right next to each other was BOG (dinner).
