They seem to do this EVERY January, the only times I've ever gotten to ride it have been the few times I got to go to WDW in December, unfortunately January works with our school schedule better =(
This always amuses me because if things weren't rehab-ed people would be complaining about their poor condition & you'd be hearing "why don't they just shut it down & do what they need to do?".
Guess it's just the typical NIMBY syndrome.
Also, I can't remember a Jan trip when Splash wasn't closed for rehab (along with other e-tickets).

I agree...It was the same thing with Space Mtn..People all agree it needs to be re-done, but everyone is annoyed it is getting done on their trips.I do feel bad for the Jan/Feb travelers though.Splash always seems to be down Jan/Feb
I'll be there in Feb and it doesnt' bother me so much but it would be nice for the people that go every Jan/Feb for Disney to switch up the refurb a bit.

I don't agree that it's "the typical NIMBY syndrome", nor am I "annoyed", but I am disappointed that Crystal Palace and Splash will both be closed in January. Of course it still needs to be done, and it makes perfect sense to close Splash when the parks are slower and colder. But people can express their disappointment without wishing ill on other people - it doesn't mean everyone who is sad it is shut down is wishing it on someone else instead (i.e. the NIMBY syndrome - "do it, but not to me").
Eating at Crystal Palace is a family tradition for each WDW trip, and I'm sad it won't happen this time. But if it needs to be refurbed, then we'll eat somewhere else. But I'm sad for my six year old that always draws pictures to give to Pooh and friends - it is a sweet tradition. My ten year old's favorite ride is Splash - I'm sad for her that she won't get to ride it, but there is always another trip. But she survived Space Mountain being closed this year and will survive Splash being closed.
I don't think it is amusing for people to be disappointed if their favorite attraction is always closed whenever they are able to travel (for the habitual January travelers), and I feel sad for people who don't get to go to WDW as often as I do and who might miss something really cool because of a refurb. If WDW announced that Primeval Whirl or Dinosaur was being closed for two months, it wouldn't change my trip at all, but I wouldn't be amused by those who are disappointed that they are going to miss it. Same with many of the restaurants - I wouldn't miss a lot of them if they were closed, but I'd feel sad for someone whose tradition is was to eat somewhere and it was closed during their trip, just as I'd feel sad for someone who wanted to bring their child to CRT but couldn't get reservations, even though they did their research and called as soon as they could. Many trips are planned before the refurbs are announced, and it is sometimes not practical for people to change flights and vacation schedules, so I am a bit more understanding of people who are sad they will miss something that is important to them.
