Which is why what is going on right now isn't whitewashing history to trying to pretend things didn't happen. It is an acknowledgement of what Did happen and a chance to learn more about history.

Until the past few weeks when where were issues with "the eyes of texas are upon you" song and now with zip a dee do dah I was unaware of things like the minstrel shows.

This is an opportunity and chance to learn more history and not to bury it.
How could you be unware of the minstrel shows.

The Simpsons is considered Racist because of Apu, which is highly offensive to Indian American and Indians.
Would you be okay with erasing the Simpson's TV catalogu.

The Problem With Apu - Official Trailer | truTV

I love The Simpsons. Its funny that back in its heyday in the '90s, some people hated it. Teachers didn't like you talking about it. Many thought it was a crude, disgusting, offensive show. However, the ratings proved that the vast majority of people absolutely loved it.

Can we just stick to Splash Mountain? You have brought up this point 20 times.
Well the racism of Apu and the Simpson is relevant since Disney owns the Simpson's catalog.
It's a very hurtful character and I suggest everyone watch the Problem with Apu.

Imagine having this conversation with a kid. We are changing your ride because it’s racist. The kid pulls up the video of the ride on YouTube and watches it. The kid looks at the parents and says: okay. Now, what exactly was that kid’s take away? This is going to make for awkward conversations since you can’t pop in the DVD and explain it.

It's probably not that much harder or different than explaining to kids right now why they haven't seen/can't watch the "Br'er Rabbit" movie after they go on the ride. I mean sure you can lie and pretend like it doesn't exist, but I'm sure this is an issue for a decent amount of parents. Kids grow up, while a relatively small group of them might run into difficult issues regarding the transition, imagine how many more kids are going to be excited to ride a ride based on a movie they have seen or can easily see on Disney+ when they get home once the re-theme is complete and this version is the one in place until the next major reboot.

It's just a re-theme!!! Disney has done this so many times in so many different rides. The ride will not change, only the theme. I bet the fireflies will be awesome, We will still have the great drop down water ride. Let it go! Let it go!

You are right - this is an opportunity to learn about these things. Heck, I've learned some things and I was pretty well-versed in a lot of it. The danger comes from when people don't want to learn about it, but rather burn it down or protect it at all costs. A lot of that gets bandied about. Thankfully, the Dis is generally more civilized than a lot of places and I appreciate that.

So really this is just about playing lip service to Racism if we can't have a conversation on all aspects of Racism. I see how that works.

Pretty sure it's just about keeping it on the topic of Splash Mountain and Princess and the Frog since that's what the thread was created to discuss. What-abouts that deviate from that topic can be discussed in other threads, I'm sure, as long as they adhere to the board rules.

I rarely watch tv and didn’t watch The Simpsons until I went on the ride at Universal a couple years ago. Truthfully, couldn’t get through an episode and didn’t quite get the draw to the show but it’s evidently popular given the time it’s been running.

I had no idea Disney owned it. I’m going to check this out now because I’m curious.
