Splash Mountain to become Princess and the Frog ride

Not sure about the ones in DL, but they for sure wouldn't be like the ones at Cafe du Monde in NOLA - already tried the ones at Port Orleans - greasy and heavy.

My husband is from New Orleans and we made the mistake of trying the beignets and king cake at POFQ once. It still regularly comes up how awful they were. :rotfl:

Actually, I thought the ones at Port Orleans were not bad (mind you there is a pretty good variety). And yes, they are nothing like Cafe Beignet's in NOLA.

There is something that feels so insulting about implying that stories passed down in a culture are reliant on a Disney ride to survive. I’m certain I am wording how I feel poorly but this whole tangent has been uncomfortable.

It feels manipulative, I don’t know.
It’s very insulting. So much so that was what made me ask/respond to the poster honestly.

And I also wanna note, I don’t take any issue with anyone having loved this ride, being saddened by the change, and even expressing that. Because I myself went through a mourning period when I decided a few years ago not to ride it anymore. My issue has been with the few (very few) that have tried to trivialize my (and apparently a lot of other BPOC) feelings as merely cancel/PC culture in an effort to prove why it should not change. People can miss it and be nostalgic but to see people so angry because something that is harmful is being changed is very disheartening.

Did anybody else wake up this morning and think this was all some bad Disney dream? In other news, I wore my Splash Mountain shirt today. My Brer Bear plush will now be front and center in my Disney collection. Every morning, I'll wake up and say "How do you do?" to him. paw:

It really makes me cringe when I see so many people claiming it's "just PC BS." That is incredibly disgusting to say.

The fact that it’s hard to get a copy of this movie tells me that people are complaining based on what they heard from others, not from actually seeing the movie.

YouTube was loaded with clips and even the full version for quite some time. Not sure if they’ve been taken down, but there was a time when it was not hard to find online at all ... that’s probably how many have seen it.

Just take out the song in Splash Mountain, don't change the whole ride. Put princess and the frog somewhere else. If you watch that movie it's about voodoo and witchcraft for little kids. That's ok though.

If you read the press release, the new ride will take place after the movie.

We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.

So I doubt voodoo or Dr. Facilier will even be in the new ride.

Imagine having this conversation with a kid. We are changing your ride because it’s racist. The kid pulls up the video of the ride on YouTube and watches it. The kid looks at the parents and says: okay. Now, what exactly was that kid’s take away? This is going to make for awkward conversations since you can’t pop in the DVD and explain it.

We had the conversation with my 8 yo son last night who was crying when we told him it was closing. We explained why and he didn't totally get it but he understands how things in the past can be attached to things we now see as inappropriate and gets why it needs to change. We then watched princess and the frog and now he is good with it

I appreciate your perpective on this.

It’s good your kid likes that movie. I like the Simpsons, but I still prefer the Back to the Future ride. This redo has to be good.

No. Disney changes all the time. I've been visiting the parks since 1980. This is certainly not the first time something has changed and certainly not the last. I have fond memories of the things I've enjoyed and look forward to the new things to come. Every time they announce something I love is closing (Maelstrom, Illuminations, Wishes, etc.), I go say goodbye one last time, be grateful for what I experienced and then I let it go. I'm typically very pleasantly surprised and delighted by what comes next.

I hope that they do a better job than they did with the Maelstrom->Frozen remake.
That’s what the remake will be. They will use that tech and tout it all over. Just like they still do with mine ride. Splash will be come 2-3 quick scenes then blackness areas like frozen.
Splash is filled with action throughout the entire ride. My kids love it. They always ask what movie it’s from. I always told them it’s from a Disney movie that they never put on dvd to watch. We have it on vhs. They don’t even know we have it or what vhs is.
Deff my favorite Disney music. The movies whole soundtrack is awesome. Laughing place is one of the best songs.

Splash Mountain was a great ride. Kids only see the cute rabbit and bear nothing more. Why not just take the song out if that the problem, why change the whole ride? Put a Princess and the frog ride closer to New Orlean's Square. Also does nobody see all the voodoo and witch craft in that movie? That's fine for kids.
Are you comparing actual religions/spiritual practices to racism?

Are you a parent? There will be much more difficult conversations to be had as a parent other than the reason a ride is being re-themed. My goodness.

Things like this are opportunities to teach our children how to adapt to changes and be empathetic and understanding of others experiences. It’s only awkward if you make it awkward.
