Splash Mountain to become Princess and the Frog ride

Ok I haven't been online since yesterday. I've been making home made pizza dough and sauce all night.

Now this is on page 49? Do I need to read all 50 pages? I'm going to guess this is what was covered, let me know if I missed anything:

  1. Someone posted the news
  2. Rteetz posts a few blog posts and/or tweets.
  3. Someone says something nostalgic
  4. Someone hates it
  5. Someone tells someone to relax it's just a ride.
  6. Someone says but my feels.
  7. Someone hates it
  8. Someone loves change
  9. Someone alludes to something cynical about race.
  10. Someone points out this probably started a long time ago.
  11. Rteetz threatens to shut down the thread.
  12. Someone hates it.
  13. Someone is an armchair Imagineer about how they're going to redo Frontierland.
  14. Wishlists of stuff about the ride and the surrounding area.
  15. Someone hates it and will cancel their vacation.
  16. Someone hates it but probably would have never gone back to WDW again anyway.
  17. Rteetz says there is a thread somewhere about something and you should continue there.
  18. Now it's page 10
  19. Stuff
  20. Page 49: Yesterdark posts a snarky list
Did I nail it?
Ding ding ding!

It does if you're in a scramble to be PC. Let's not pretend that they couldn't do it.

My 12 year old son loves drawing and animation. He can knock out amazingly detailed sketches and drawings in under 10 minutes. I guarantee Disney can have preliminary concept sketches done in a day if need be, let alone a couple weeks.

There has been a somewhat vocal minority to sort of use the film as a teaching moment. Whoopi Goldberg for example has said she wants the film released to the public.

Yes, I've known her stance. She's even volunteered to do introductions and analysis of problematic old cartoons. I do agree with her that hiding it away is a counterproductive move. An issue for me with many problems facing our society is the the problems are complex but people only want the simplest of solutions. Hide it, destroy it, never speak of it again - these aren't real and productive solutions because it lets the offending material retain its power - it is better to find a way to take away that power. It only has what we give it.

Changes are ok. Just don't take it away completely! And leave "Blood on the Saddle" alone.
That’s too funny I downloaded that song after taking my kids to see country bear jamboree. When they were little and would fight in the car while I was driving I’d put on that song and miraculously they would stop fighting to yell at me to turn it off.

Give people a minute....they'll find something. It's the way of the world now.

Yup, Disney should really think long and hard on what they are doing.
Apu from the Simpsons is considered highly offensive by Indian Americans and Indians.
Is Disney willing to cancel the Simpson's TV catalog from Disney plus and IP?

All those who want to erase Splash Mountain should watch the documentary, "The Problem with Apu" (which is available on demand for free on youtube.tv.)

They say they've been working on it for over a year, but, only announces it officially a scant two weeks before it's unveiled. When have they ever done that before now?

No, but they own this version of the characters, I can’t use Disney version of the characters legally, this is their legally owned image/character, hence IP. If I wanted to use Disneys version/likeness I would have to pay to use them. They don’t own the character, but they do own the likeness. But maybe you didn’t know that.

IP is shorthand these days for overused movie-based paraphernalia, in direct opposition to the creation of park-only attractions. You know it, I know it, let's move on. You clearly know what I'm talking about.

Don't give them any ideas lol Besides, the other races aren't a hot button issue right now so you'll have no big media push on that score. Nothing to see here folks....doesn't serve the aggenda, be as offensive as you like there. :P

My bet is they've been noodling this for a long time, likely with various themes and such, but decided very recently to seriously go for it. Imagineers sit around and think up all kinds of things that aren't even real projects and save the material for if it ever comes around. There are probably retheme idas for nearly every attraction lying around somewhere, probalby just sketches though.

It seems too much of a coincidence that they are getting rid of Splash Mountain and replacing it with
Princess & Frog instead of creating an additional Princes & Frog attraction. It's too convenient.

It's like getting rid of Columbus Day and replacing it with Indigenous People day.
Why would anyone want to celebrate a date when the White Aliens first landed on their country and destroyed their civilization, took their land and killed their people.
You would think that any different date to celebrate Indigenous People day would be better then the day that was the beginning of the end of their civilization. It's illogical. But not much thought goes into these things.

You are using a term incorrectly and fail to see that, you clearly aren’t grasping the issue and are willing to argue over it. IP isn’t short hand for over used movie paraphernalia, it’s shorthand for intellectual property. You can’t take words with actual definitions and mold them to fit your uses. Overused movie paraphernalia could possibly called cliche, but it has absolutely nothing to do with IP. Don’t try to get me to move on so you can prove your point.

Not true and Disney is assessing other attractions for areas of change or improvement.
The Simpson's TV show?

If you are going to erase Splash Mountain then the equitable thing to do is erase the Simpsons because of Apu.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that for me, I do think that the ride needed a make over but I think the timing is absolute crap! I think Disney is pandering and catering to the social climate and in many opinions that only adds fuel the the already scorching fire. This is something they should've done ages ago and it infuriates me that they chose NOW to act like they give a rats behind. </rant>

Have you even followed Disney the last decade? They prefer jamming an existing IP into a current ride rather than building a completely new ride.
