Splash mountain refurbishment

Even if Song of the South is racist (and how can you judge that when no one can watch the movie today?) how on earth is Splash Mountain "racist"? It's all animals!

But besides that, my biggest concern is that they will ruin a great ride. First of all if they close the ride for a year or more, that's less capacity at the MK, and it's the only water ride on hot days. Second, the retheme could be a big disappointment. How are they going to match the greatness of the ride as it is now? Daunting task. My biggest dread would be if they replace the AAs with screens. How are they going to replace all those AAs anyway? Developing new AAs is a huge task, so I feel like we're likely to get short changed.
Guaranteed it will be leaning heavily on screens and projections. They're cheap and easily replaced. Props and animatronics have to be maintained and have issues pretty consistently. Not to mention Splash Mountain is a huge ride with a lot of real estate to change over.

And why can’t you find the movie anywhere?

its never been released on home video in the states……ever.

wonder why.

I hope not. That would be a huge downgrade on this wonderful, charming ride. Like I said earlier, a raw deal.

We were stuck on SM this past summer. When you stop and listen to the voices being used on this ride it is undeniably racist. I never realized just how bad it was until getting stuck and listening to the same thing over and over and over again for 20+ mins.

The change is not about being "woke" or anything else. The company realized it was offensive and is making a change. I'm actually really excited about the change to Princess and the Frog. As a river ride it makes perfect sense.

Walt never meant for things to stay the exact same forever. He knew that Disney would change with time and that means some of our favorites will get replaced.

Surely you can't think that "people who have never seen it" are the ones at The Walt Disney Company who are making the decision to not make it available for distribution or streaming. Surely. Right?
I think they’re pandering to those people.

So wait, accents are racist?

The character are all animals. Sounds preposterous to say the soundtrack is racist.

Even IF that was the case, I would greatly prefer they change the soundtrack, rather than butcher one of my favorite rides (and yes, if they replace the sets and AAs with screens and projections, I call that butchery).

To all those who disagree with this retheme, please write to Disney and let them know what you think. As other posters have stated, they do read the emails.

People who saw it when it came out called it racist. It's not that this is a new thing, at all.
People called it racist before it came out. Didn’t make it racist then, doesn’t make it racist now. And it certainly doesn’t make the ride racist.

I've said it before, so I'm not sure why I'm surprised. But I continue to be completely stunned at what people are willingly to publicly say about themselves. Everytime I think our country is moving forward I read some posters in threads like this and it makes me feel sorry for humanity again. What's the harm in a little compassion for others? Just because you don't feel a certain way about something, doesn't make it incorrect for others.

as long as they keep the "going to the laughing place" ride element (even it they theme it something else) and then of course the drop at the end, the rest doesn't really matter. it's just stuff to look at.

If it ends up anything like Runaway Railway or Remy it will be lame .... I can watch TV at home and save the 1000's

Just because you feel a certain way about something, doesn't make it right for others.

So it's your opinion that those having an opinion that other's opinions are wrong is wrong?

In my country we have a saying, a monkey is a monkey no matter how nicely it's dressed. The ride is racist, the movie, and everything surrounding it including the treatment of the actor is racist, no matter how much some ppl wanna put their heads in the sand and pretend really hard that it isn't. There truly are rotten apples everywhere. And Splash Mountain a charming and wonderful ride? Don't make me laugh. It's outdated, it's boring, it's had it's time.

Personally I can't wait for it's refurbishment into something better. And Princess and the Frog is the perfect property for it. I shall be second in line when it comes.

Ahhh, good old plagiarism without the credit. Now I know not to take you seriously, thanks for making it easier.

Not sure why I find it so hard to not feed the trolls.
