Splash Mountain - People getting out of Logs

We were on the ride last week and a group of teens from another country were constantly standing up in the Log in front us. One of them got out and started walking alongside while another took his picture. I couldn't believe it! I know they have security cameras throughout here. My assumption was this kid was either going to fall and get seriously injured or that Disney would revoke his ticket at the end of the ride. Neither happened. This is the kind of activity that needs to be policed. Anyone lese witness this type of thing before?

I've never seen it but I've heard of it! Just how STUPID can people get!!!! I'm sorry but maybe there needs to be an I.Q. test given before you're allowed in!

I once heard of someone doing that on Splash and drowning for his trouble!

I can't believe security didn't see those kids!

Did they at least make an announcement? I can't believe that the ride wasn't shut down! Someone must not have been monitoring the ride very well that day.

We rode Splash Mountain the day that some guy got out and got hit by another log and killed back in November of 2000. We were there hours before it happened, but remember hearing about it the next day. I was glad we weren't in the log that hit the guy. What a horrible thing to have to see!

I get nervous when I see people acting stupid on a rides. Back before they had seatbelts on all the seats on Tower of Terror, I saw a guy who just down right refused to put the seatbelt on when he was sitting in the jump seat. The cast member asked him to put the seat belt on three times. He actually grabbed the buckle, made a sighing noise, and threw it down. The cast member finally asked her to follow him, and he could wait for the next elevator.

We were on SM two and half years ago, I think it was, when some young man got out of the log and started walking the pathway alongside the attraction. We never found out if he was just having fun or freaked out or what, but they kept stopping the ride and made repeated announcements over the sound system for people to stay in their vehicles and to stay where they were as they tried to catch up with him. It was pretty early on in the ride, if I recall... We were dumfounded when we saw him. No-one was hurt though, and ride security knew about it and made announcements almost immediately.

I'm very surprised to hear that security didn't respond. My DS and her hubby were in WDW last year and whist riding Pirates of the Caribbean a young lad in the boat in front of them decided he wanted to lay down across the seat he was in. The ride was stopped immediately, the house lights were put on and a voice over the loud speaker kept saying "GET UP! GET UP! THE RIDE WILL NOT CONTINUE UNTIL EVERYONE IS SITTING UP IN THEIR SEATS!". He sat up and the ride proceeded. I saw the video and it's was really funny to watch, and quite good how quickly the CM's responded to this episode.

I went to ride on Splash Mountain last Thursday at about 1pm to 1-30pm whilst my girlfriend waited to photograph me on the bridge outside. Although I noticed nothing unusual whilst walking through the waiting area, my girlfriend said just after I left her, all of the logs that came down the mountain were empty. She was there for about 5 to 10 minutes and all logs were empty and stacking up at the corner after the Big Splash. She assumed there were problems on the ride so left to go back to the entrance. By the time i got to the ride though it was definately working although the queue had certainly started to build up. Could this incidence be related? ANother similar thing I saw quite often that annoyed me was the people who kept tryng to grab and touch the animatronic figures and scenery. DOn't they realise they are increasing the risk of the figures breaking down sooner rather than later and thus increasing the chances of the ride needing a rehab?

That was a separate situation on Thursday. We went to get Fastpasses about 12:00 noon and all of the water was shut off and they evacuated everyone from the ride. I do not know what time they got it back up but I overheard someone say that someone got out of the log this day as well. I have a feeling they will be implementing some changes in the near future if these type of things keep happening.

Wow - I am surprised they didn't monitor more closely. A couple weeks ago we were behind a dad and son. The son was about 3 and just made the height requirement. Dad kept putting son on his lap and as soon as he did an announcement was made immediately to have everyone seated in his/her own seat. Dad puts kid back down only to pick him up two minutes later - same announcement. It was very annoying to have this happen many times but I am just glad the dad finally listened so we could enjoy the music and ride and so that no one got hurt. I can't imagine the risk involved in having a kid on a parents lap during the bigger drop.

Some people are such idiots. I just thing the rest of should thank God for the brains he gave us and feel sorry for the others without them.

In June 2002, my daughter and I were stuck on a boat for a full 5 minutes underneath the possums. The clicking noise was driving us absolutely NUTS. I never found out why they stopped the ride, but after reading these posts it looks like just another idiot looking for his missing brain.

They may have stopped the ride to load a passenger with disabilites. This happens to me all the time on Spaceship Earth at Epcot.

Still drives me nuts that people just don't think the rules apply to them! Why do people think they won't get hurt when they pull stuff like this is beyond me!

Maybe the should post more signs saying "This ride is under video survalence (sp?) from start to finnish, so keep your bums in the seat already!"

We were on Thursday as well, but Splash *was* down that day for a couple of hours so I think it may have been mechanical problemms. Anyway, while we were riding (I think acturally this happened on Thursday) they made announcements about remaining seated. Also, I noticed at least one sign about video surveillance.

I'd rather they tell people that "failure to follow the safety rules will result in expulsion from the park for the day". And then DO IT! Bet no one tests the "rule" more than once!

Two years ago while on It's a Small World some teenagers in front of us started throwing coins. We were vacationing with a police sergeant who immediately barked, knock it off! They were on their best behavior for the rest off the ride and scurried quickly away when it was over. Mickey can't see everything, sometimes He needs a little help.

Sad thing is, I would expect this kind of behavior at "other parks", but Disney is almost a "sacred ground" that should be immune from such stupidity. Unfortunately, if you have the money to get in, I guess there's not much they can do. There's no IQ test at the gates. However, I agree that people who don't follow the rules should be thrown out so the rest of us can enjoy the sights and sounds of our favorite rides. It kind of kills the thrill when you are stopping every little bit hearing a voice telling people to behave. Isn't it a given that people should behave???? My 7-year-old has better manners!!!!

There is a reason to remain seated and it's for your own safety. Gosh, I freak out when my son doesn't want to hold on . Some people must think they are truly invincible!! Luckily nobody was hurt. HOwever, just a minor bump or bruise might of taught the young group a lesson they need!!!

I'm actually surprised by the number of parents I see who let their kids break the rules on the ride. I've seen parents let their kids stand up and move from one side of the log to the other on Splash Mountain and other rides that are moving. I've seen parents who let their kids let their hands drag in the water at It's A Small World and Pirates of the Caribbean.

When we were on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, a mother sent her seven year old to sit in her own seat, then proceeded to sit two rows behind the child. Then, tried to get the child to climb over into her seat. A cast member stopped her because she realized that the child and the mother were actually in different cars. My sister and I kept an eye on the child the entire ride, and talked to her because she was a bit nervous.

And I agree with KathyFP. People do these stupid things on rides, and then want to sue. We live in such a litigious society--it's crazy (and I work for a law firm). It seems like most of the accidents that happen on rides happen because of the rider doing something stupid.
