splash mountain: lap bars now installed

Another thing ruined by stupid people.

I don't understand how that ruins the ride? :confused3 It did not change the attraction or visibility. If a person is sitting correctly the entire time, it should be the same as if there is a lapbar there.

it doesn't look bad ad I guess its not too bothersome....but once they get mildewy....ewww..your lap and shirt may end up smelling.

Lap Bars for EVERYBODY!

I don't agree that it ruined the ride.....but for the idiots part - I think the better thing to do would be to throw those guests out and revoke their tickets.

These are not always insignificant details.

They simply added some basic AUTOMATIC GATES at the EXIT (disembark) side of Toy Story Mania, and the riders-per-hour dropped and so they had to cut the number of FastPasses issued per day.

A lap-bar load/unload could easily drop the riders-per-hour on Splash far more than the TSM exit gates.

But what about all the times the ride has to stop - or be reset? The majority of those times will decrease now that people will not be able to get out of the boats. I would imagine the time on paper will go up, but the *actual* amount of riders will stay the same, if not increase since the ride won't have to be stopped so frequently.

Lap Bars for EVERYBODY!

:rotfl2:

FTR, it is obvious to most that lapbars are being put in the ride vehicles to keep people from standing, reaching to grab Brer Rabbit, throwing water on other passengers in the ride vehicle while it's in motion. The people who stand on a moving ride are in fact acting stupid or may even be stupid.

I guess here's added thrill. Personally I prefer the fake thrill of falling....but I guess I'll take the thrill of possible death by entrapment, lol.

I have had a completely irrational fear of log flume rides ever since I was dragged onto one as a child by my father who promised that it wasn't scary. It was (to a 5 year old who could not swim), and ever since that ride I have hated log flumes. I will go on them when asked to by my wife, children or friends, because I KNOW that I am perfectly safe, but it's an irrational fear that I've never been able to get over, despite riding every other thrill ride that I've ever encountered.

The ironic thing is that the installation of lap bars actually won't actually make me feel any safer, because my irrational fear is NOT that I will fly out of the log, but rather that the log will flip over and trap me underneath it and that I will drown. Yes, I know that makes my fear even less rational, since the water on the drop is about an inch deep and the logs don't just flip over even in the slightly deeper sections, but the last thing I want is to be locked into a log.

Anyways, enough baring of my soul to a bunch of strangers on the Internet who now know my secret shame. I agree that the lap bars are because of stupid people standing up and showing off, and not to address any actual safety issues for those who follow the common sense rules. It's a shame, but a result of our overly litigious society and the requirements of insurance underwriters.

Oh tag fairy :lmao::lmao:

Splash breaks down a lot and already has long lines, I'm curious how much longer this will make the waits.

The load/unload-time will be slowed, so the lines will be longer, and the FP's can run out sooner.
Ah, but there is a chance that there will be fewer "commotions" caused by Br'er Fox and Br'er Bear downstream----(i.e. fewer Stupid Guest pulling the standing up/getting out of the log Trick.) If so, that could make up for the longer dispatch time when it comes to overall capacity.

In any event, this was more or less inevitable. For some reason, a goodly number of "guests" can't remember to remain seated, so now the lap bars will "remember" for them. Was it strictly necessary? Probably not. But, it is what it is.

I think it is a good idea due to stupid people and scared kids. I remember the first time I rode it at DL when I was about 12. Right before the big drop, panic set in and I stood straight up and tried to get out towards a CM exit. My sister pulled me in thankfully but I posed a real danger to myself. She has yet to let me live it down and it scares me to think other children might do the same thing.

So yes, even though it will lose a bit of its thrill, and yes, physics is at work, there are still dangers posed to idiots like me who may panic at the last moment.

Oh, and as a adult I now love thrill rides, so there is no risk of my being stupid again (at least in this realm, :rotfl:).

That is my fear on water rides too! Mine comes from it actually happening several times though. Mostly on the round ones like Kali.

Not to freak you out but I have to post in case anyone says-that never happens.

Even if lap bars were a positive addition (which I don't believe they are) , they only fit to the largest person in the seat.

If you were afraid your kid was going to fall out before, how does a lap bar that fits to a much larger adult going to help protect them?

just wait for them to be added on small world, pirates, maelstrom, grand fiesta tour and living with the land well.....and the tta...haha

If they were going to add them, I think they would have added the bars to Small World during the last vehicle fit-up. The one where they made the boats more sturdy to accomodate larger passengers.

Fantastic. Thanks for that! :rotfl2: Ironically, I'd never had a problem with the raft type of ride before, so now I can develop an entirely new neurosis!
