I am terrified of splash mountain but my friend wants to go for her birthday to Disney and get on can someone tell me what to expect. I am terrified of hights and drops but I have ridden Matahorn, California Screamin (hated it btw) SM, Big thunder, RSR pretty much everything except Guardians and Splash. I need to be convinced to not be a chicken

it was the first "big" ride my 5 year old daughter ever went on now that she was tall enough. In the picture her hands are in the air during the drop.

The drop looks a lot bigger from the ground than it is actually on the ride. It's not bad at all and over in 2 seconds

Certainly not as bad as any of the coasters that you mentioned. Not fond of it myself, but because I love the rest of the ride I endure it - not really that bad!!

It's much, much tamer than RSR or California Screamin'. Much. To me, it's tamer than SM or Matterhorn.

Splash Mountain is just a big ramp that you slide down. Notice I said "slide," not "drop." It's not like ToT where you're going straight down. Think of it as a taller, longer version of the ramp in Pirates. :)

Yeah, it looks scary from the outside. I didn't ride it for years after it opened. And when I finally did ride it, I felt so silly because it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I was expecting.

You'll be fine! If afraid sit further in the back, the view of the last drop will feel less intense. There are also two small drops in the dark. Its one of the weird things where you build yourself up to it and then when its done you tell yourself "well that wasnt that bad" and it makes you feel happy when you enter the zippidi doo da room.

It's not as steep as it looks from the outside. My youngest son was upset that he couldn't go on it again and again as many times as he wanted to...he was 3 at the time. In the photo pass picture he had the biggest smile ever both times he got to ride it.

Close your eyes if you like when going down the big hill. You'll likely ride it again afterwards and keep your eyes open the second time around

I'm terrified to ride too. I've watched numerous youtube videos and finally have gotten the nerve up to ride on our next trip and then I read that it'll be closed for refurb. Phew! Not gonna lie, I'm not mad!

The spooky build up to the drop in the ride is worse than the drop itself...goes by in a flash.

You could always try to get the last seat, not much splash and I think doesn't feel quite as thrill-ish as the front seat

When you see the vultures who say, "this is my laughing place" you will know you're on your way up to the big drop. Close your eyes and brace yourself then. It's over very quickly, and you'll feel the log floating before the drop ends.

This is how I handle it. I am not a fan of drops, but Splash Mountain is one of my favorite rides ever. Those 2 or 3 scary seconds on the hill are worth it. The entire ride is pure joy. :) I love it. The music, the details, and the animatrons are just fantastic.

I guess it depends on why it bothers you. If it's just drops, I wouldn't worry considering the things you've already done.

However, I've never been on Splash Mountain. I've done tons of big drops coasters - love cedar point! But I don't love water rides with hills. I've done two of them - one being Ripsaw Falls over at IOA - and despised both. I mean, I lived. But I don't like the fact that such rides don't have restraints. I get the physics of why they don't need them, but I despise the feeling of it. Even Pirates makes me cringe.

My daughter been riding it I think since she was 4, definately snce 5 and it doesn't bother her at all. As people said its a quick drop.

If it's only the lack of restraints that bother you, Splash now has lap bars.

I totally understand your fear- I've been on Splash over 20 times yet each time I get on line I feel scared and sometimes even duck out. Like others have said, the drop is SO QUICK. Blink and it's over. And the rest of the ride is such a treat and a joy. It's worth it if you can conquer your fear!

I am awfully scared of big drops too, and hate the one on Splash. But I ride it every time...I pretty much panic going up the hill, squeeze my eyes shut and brace myself, and shriek like a banshee on the way down. And then...it's over in like 2 seconds. And I get a hilarious picture that I can post on Facebook where the 5-year olds look calmer than me.

Sit in the back...much less intense...will try it again sitting in the back before it closes for refurbishment!

"The Drop" is the very least of this ride. The whole ride is beautiful and worth every minute. You get to make your own decision, but you are keeping yourself from a GREAT overall experience!

On our first trip in 2010, I was terrified to get on Splash because of that drop. My then 8 yr old said, "mom dont be afraid, you can squeeze my hand when you get scared." He wanted to get on it so bad so I went ahead and agreed and haven't looked back. It's one of my favorite rides. I just close my eyes during the drop :flower:
