Splash is sooooo confused.

Splash is deaf & going blind. Vet said she would be fine as long as we didn't re-arrange the furniture.

Welllllll, I cleaned up all the junk from the spare bedroom / office today and she's totally confused by all the open space. She has nothing to guide her anymore. Poor thing.

So my reason for not cleaning the house anymore will be that it helps Splash figure out where she is.

If / when we move it wouldn't be for maybe another year or 2, and as mean as this sounds, I'm kind of thinking she may not be around by then. She's proven me wrong already. When they diagnosed the kidney disease 4-5 yrs ago, I seriously never thought she would be here now.

She's got my parents house memorized too. Or at least the bedroom, food & litterbox. And much of the paths thru the garden. lol

If we pick her up, we just have to put her down somewhere she knows, like bed, food, litter & a few other places. Then she's good & knows where she is.

I can't believe that Splash is 20 years young! She sure has gone through alot of kitty litter over the years. Of course, thats alot of scooping too.

OMG, with kidney disease & sub-q fluids daily, you have NO IDEA how much scoopable litter we go thru.

I don't think it's mean. It's one of those unfortunate possible realisms of life. However, if she does prove it wrong, or you move earlier, having your parent's house is a great slow transition, where she spends more time there, at first, as an anchor, until she is able to familiarize herself to her new surroundings.

We inherited a 17 year old mostly blind and deaf dog from a dear friend when she died. The dog has a companion dog that is 13 and it helps her out. They go outside together. The companion dog will go out without the 17 yr old but the older one will not go out without the other. It is really funny.

Once she got her bearings - It took about a month so that she was no falling off from the couch (yes, I am permissive - I figure there isn't a lot left she has going for her) or bumping into table legs.
