Hi all. I am hoping to plan a surprise trip for my family this coming December (we took our first family disney trip this past November and it was the most magical vacation I have ever been on).

Anyway, we did the HoopDeeDoo review for Thanksgiving night and both my kids absolutely loved it (they are ds8 and dd6). But I'm thinking for something different this next trip we should do Spirit of Aloha. I'm just not so sure if the kids will like it as much. And the problem is, this is going to be a surprise trip (Christmas morning we are going to surprise them with "Guess what, we are leaving for Disney tomorrow) so I can't ask them what they would want to do.

So for those of you who have kids between the 7 and 9 age group (or anywhere around that) did your kids enjoy the Spirit of Aloha?

The show is a lot of fun... I saw it when I was a kid back in the 70's, and love it!

Then on the last trip... I saw it as an adult (acting like a kid) and enjoyed it again.

:rotfl2: my wife will kill me for posting the 4th photo.

As I kid you've got to love the fire dancers....wish I had a picture of them

Not as good as HDDR but is good, is it your kids birthday if so they get to go up on stage. Lots of food ,beer and wine like the HDDR. One thing to remember they have long tables so you will be sitting with other families, not sure if you mind this or not (but its like a big party ). At the HDDR there were separate tables for each family.

I was just going to ask about these two choices. I am leaning toward Spirit bc my kids can get mac and cheese and nuggets and pb&j according to the menu but cant get that at HDDR.

How is the food at HDDR? Can kids get kids type food?

Thanks for any help.

My kids loved (especially my son) the food at HDDR. But my son loves fried chicken, so that may be the case. That is the one reason I have been hesitant to go to Spirit of Aloha instead, because I don't think he will like the food as much. We went on Thanksgiving and he said it was his favorite Thanksgiving meal ever.

We stayed at the Poly for last year's trip and did Spirit of Aloha with DD age 8. We loved the show and the food. For our first trip in 04, we did HDDR and DD hated it. She didn't eat any of the food and was bored stiff with the show. We were a little worried about Spirit of Aloha for the same reasons you mentioned but we found it fun and entertaining. The dancing and fire twirling would definitely keep the attention of most 7-9 year olds. They did serve separate meals for the kids. The adult food was some of the best we had on our whole trip. I would definitely recommend it.

I do not think you can get kids food at HDDR - the meal was fried chicken, baked beans, strawberry shortcake for dessert but unfortunately DD is and was very picky and literally ate almost nothing. At Spirit of Aloha the kids get separate plates of kid-type food as the main courses definitely have a Polynesian flair.

Its been 3 years since we did HDDR, but back then you could get kids food. It wasn't advertised, but available if asked. Not sure if that is still the case today.
