Spirit Airlines To Charge $5 To Print Your Boarding Pass For You !

Free market. It can do what it wants, and customers can accept or reject an airline's business model.

In Spirit's case, customers are accepting. It's the most profitable airline in the United States.

That title belongs to Allegiant Air.

What can I say :lmao:

I'm NOT surprised by anything this airline does . I live 40 miles from thier airport, and sorry, even if you would pay me, NO ! :confused3:confused3

My thoughts exactly.

In this day and age I have no sympathy for those who only look at "loss leader" fares without realizing the real costs. It takes 5 minutes to do an internet search for the airline and find out about it

There was a story on my local news this week about a group of people who planned a flight on Spirit from Latrobe airport (east of PIT) and Myrtle Beach for October. Much to their surprise, Spirit changed the date of their flights to one day earlier both departure & return (it's not a daily flight). They already have a condo booked for the original dates. They called the consumer reporter from the tv station. Spirit is "looking into it".

This is why my flight with Spirit in August will be my last one. I'm sick and tired of them nickel-and-diming their customers for every little thing.

They LOWERED all of their fares by $5. You can print your boarding pass at home for free (and enjoy the $5 lower fare) or have it printed by the agent at the counter and pay the $5 fee (thus paying the same as before this fee was introduced). Spirit is a budget airline. If you want perks, pay to fly with another company. If you want the lowest possible fare, Spirit may be the choice for you. As I see it, they're doing everything they can to make the fares lower. They're just going with an ala carte price structure so if you want more luggage, food, extra service-you have to pay for it. The other airlines are charging higher fares to begin with to cover the cost of these things for all of their passengers, regardless of wether or not all of the passengers want these services. I like the idea of only paying for what I want and not the extras that I don't use or need.

Every time an airline does something like this, 50% of the people say we are tired of being nickel and dimed to death, and why can't the airlines just put a reasonable fare out there without all the addtl fees. Then, the other 50% says that they want to be able to choose what 'extras' they want to pay for. That sometimes they may want to check two bags so they plan on paying those fees, and that it makes sense to have a lower fare but addtl fees...drinks, baggage, bp printing, extra legroom seats, preferred early boarding, etc. That way if you want to you can just pay the lower fare and get nothing addtl.

Sometimes, people don't mind the fees if they can't actually see them. But, me?? I want to know what I'm paying for. So, if the basic flight is going to be $125, but they tack on $20 for checked bags (I don't see the cost since it's in the fare), cost of beverages (again, in the fare) etc., then it's not such a big deal for them. But as soon as you start having to pay for it, oop, it doesn't much matter how low your airfare was.

Now...if you're paying top dollar for the airfare and they are still charging for just about everything, well, that's a whole different story.
