I heard Spirit Airlines changed the weight limits for bags with Spirit but i couldnt find the information. Has anyone heard if the weight limits for checked luggage went from 50 pounds to 40 pounds? i prepaid bags for the $9 fare club rate but if i am losing 10 pounds ...YIKES thats a big chunk to repack into another suitcase.

Thanks for any help!

Thank you i did check the website and found the 50 pounds that i thought it was. I guess i heard wrong about it being changed to 40 pounds.

You didn't hear wrong. Check the link provided and scroll down. It goes to 40lbs for: CHECKED BAGS
For travel February 1, 2011 and beyond
(Effective for reservations purchased on or after November 30, 2010)

Good catch. I can't think of any ethical reason for having a weight limit lower then industry standards, without prominently displaying it on the main page. It's obvious Spirit is looking to grab an extra $25 from passengers who don't understand what kind of airline they're booking.

Not really a surprised a year or so ago Spirit had a size limit of 61" (industry standard is 62"). I guess they got tired of arguing with passengers.

A member of the $9 club can by $25 for a bag that weights between 41-50 lbs or pay $25 to check a second 40 pound bag.

Older suitcases can weigh 15-18 pounds empty. Some passengers may want to buy new luggage.

Spirit is really a joke anymore. The convienence being 10 minutes away from the airport is the only reason that we still fly with them. Next thing you know they be charging you for breathing the air on the plane...

The next thing will be weighing you, along with your personal items. You'll get on the scale with your purse, coat, camera case, duffel bag etc before you board the plane. The first 150 lbs is free. Something like .25/lb over. Passenger weights 200 lbs and their stuff weighs 10 lbs. 60 lbs or $15.

I live 45 minutes from the airport and you couldn't PAY ME to fly Spirit !
Last time I said they were a JOKE others in South Jersey were upset !
Maybe its time to take a closer look :confused3
To me they are still a JOKE :rotfl2:

I am in the "you can't pay me to fly them" group.

Consistently I see reports of HORRID service, high fees etc... :confused3

They are "0k" if everything goes well. Any issues. You are on your own, Spirit does NOT do Customer Service (and the industry standard is low, it's bad to be the bottom feeder of a bad industry :rotfl:)

People make fun of me because I routinely fly Spirit. I am lucky enough to have a friend that lives in the Fort Lauderdale area, so I visit when I can. I flew from Boston to Fort Lauderdale twice in September, once in October and once in November. If it weren't for Spirit, there is no way I could afford that. I also leave my summer clothes with him, so I have no luggage, no carry on - nothing.

For me, their policies are great. All I'm looking for is cheap. I am so sad that I wasn't able to take advantage of their recent promos due to work. It would have meant $53 Round Trip Boston to Fort Lauderdale. I don't have hotel reservations or anything like that I need to get to.

If you notice in my signature is my next trip to WDW. Can't gamble with Spirit on that one.

So what do you do when (A) they go on strike or (B) thier computers go down or (C) the plane breaks etc.....

Walk from FLL to BOS? Honestly that's why I won't use them. You will just be left hanging when something goes wrong.
