We have had our trip planned for a few months but with the recent increase in gas prices and driving a gas guzzling SUV we have decided to fly. I started checking prices this weeked and the cheapest I found for a non-stop flight from DTW to MCO was $785 through Spirit (for 3 seats). I looked again today and it is down to $758. Should I book now or wait? There are 3 different flights available for each leg of our trip so I am not too worried about them selling out in the next few days. Any opinions?

I would wait! I booked tickets on Spirit to go from Chicago O'Hare to MCO and it only cost me $500 total for 3 tickets. (approx $80 each way, per person). I booked these tickets back in early April. I had also checked the rates in mid-March, and it would have cost almost $150 more (total) if I had booked at that time. So the prices had dropped "significantly" in just a matter of weeks.

Last year I also took Spirit from Chicago to MCO, and paid around $200 RT per person, booking those tickets in mid-summer. My guess is that their prices fluctuate enough over time to make it worthwhile to wait. But I'd check their website at least every 4-5 days! (And personally, I'd try to hold out for a RT price of around $200 per person.)

Does United's new airline fly out of Detriot? It's called "TED" airlines...when I checked their website last week, their rates seemed pretty comprable to Spirit.

Good luck!

I just noticed your "countdown" clock, and realized you probably need those tickets for a quick up-coming trip! Hmm, in that case, maybe just wait a couple of days, and check back again with Spirit. I'd actually try doing "Orbitz" or Expedia.com to see if those websites come up with a cheaper alternative....

briannesmom,

We are flying out of DTW on Spirit in November and we paid 170 round trip. I booked the tickets back in March. If I had booked them a month earlier I could have gotten them for 150 rt. If you want to gamble you could sign up for their sybersaver and they will email with last minute specials. Otherwise I wouldn't wait. JMHO.

Go check www.spiritair.com That's where we booked our flights. We're leaving 6/22, coming back 6/28 - and only paid $170.50 ea.

From your countdown - looks like you're flying out around the 4th? I just checked and depending on the exact day/date you're leaving - they have fares one way from 100-134 each.

i was upset over what i paid for my plane tickets with spirit until i started reading some of these postings. never will i complain again.

last july 4 i booked with spirit and paid $49/98 rt from ord to mco.

i booked 3 weeks ago on line with spirit and paid $59/118 rt for oct.
usually on july 4 i have been able to get the best deals with spirit on line but didn't want to wait this time. started to get fearful the early flight would sell out.
the last 3 years i would book on july 4 to get the cheapest rates but was afraid with the increase of gas the deals might not be there for this fall.

i didn't realize how much more people are paying for fares from chgo to orlando until i read this thread.
