Spirit Air anybody?

I have flown Spirit several times, they and Allegiant Air are my airlines of choice. I like cheap. :)

Have never had a problem with Spirit. One time they changed our non-stop flight to include a stop and I just called and politely asked if we could be put on their later, non-stop flight and they did that. Easy fix.

One time, after a cruise with my parents, we were not scheduled to fly out of Orlando until around 6 p.m. I had not booked the earlier noon time flight because with elderly parents I wasn't sure we'd make it in time. But we did get to the airport in time and we politely asked if there was room on the noon flight, and could we get on that one instead. No problem.

We rarely pay for our seats. Our flight to Florida takes about 3 hours, I don't HAVE to sit somewhere specific for 3 short hours. Even if DH and I were to be separated (and that has never happened) it wouldn't bother me for that short of a flight. Now if we were flying overseas, on a 10+ hour flight, I would probably pay for a seat choice and to make sure DH and I could sit together for that long of a flight.

We bring our own water bottles and snacks if we want them, or we will buy theirs if we want to splurge. After all, we're on vacation. :)

Spirit air is great out of atlantic city, but just dont be late for your flight like my friends were. there were 6 of them traveling to orlando and got to the gate just as the doors were closing! they had paid $36 per person round trip!! spirit would not let them get on the next flight unless they paid full price. so they ended up paying and extra $1000 for their flights. yes it was their fault not spirits. but if your not familiar with the airport at AC get there early so you dont miss your flight!

We usually fly spirit out of AC to Florida all the time. Now airtran flys out of AC. They do not have as many non stop flights to FL but I believe that if you are a member of their flyer program there are no bag fees. Next time we go we'll probably fly airtran. We are only 30 min. from AC so we're flying spirit usually for the airport convenience factor not really spirit. they have gotten on my nerves in the past few years.

They charge the bag fee, as well as the seat fee. This can add up to almost $200 r/t for some people! Their sale fares are good, but you REALLY have to stalk their website with the prices, sometimes multiple times per day. I do get the emails and have found that if you are very flexible on your dates then there may be a great price for you. Typically a flight from Thurs-Sun will not get you a good price. Tues and Wed flights are the best, but, this is also so on other airlines. If you try to get a hold of them on the phone, ALL calls are placed to a call center in India. It is hard to understand sometimes and asking to be transfered to someone in their Miami headquarters is next to impossible. You'd think you were trying to get a hold of the Prez. of the USA!

It is what it is though. If I can find a flight to FL for $150 or less then I will do it. Otherwise I'd fly someone else.....

Thanks everyone. I did pull the triggger last night right before the coupon code I had ended. So, $150 and a few pennies for each non-stop, round trip ticket. I'll be on Spirit's website exactly 24 hours before departure to pick our seats, etc.

I am not familiar with the AC airport so we'll be there with plenty of time to spare so as not to miss our flight.

Thanks everyone for the info. I'm going to take my chances for a cheap flight to make my little suprise vacation more budget friendly. I will go in expecting the worst and hope for the best. :goodvibes
